The New York Yankees have been looking different this year. They did not have a memorable season in 2023. Moreover, the wound of the 82-80 record still hurts the fans and the players who were part of the team last year as well. That was one of the worst seasons in their franchise history. Since then, the Bronx Bombers have made some significant changes to their roster. However, none more significant than the addition of Juan Soto. It has really made a big difference in the clubhouse. Moreover, the NY side’s offense looks one of the best in the league, with the top power hitters in the game.
The Yankees need Giancarlo Stanton to provide good support to the dynamic duo of Aaron Judge and Juan Soto. If the three power hitters are on song, it will be bad days for any opponent pitchers. Moreover, the Bronx Bombers will need their pitching department to make the work easier for the offense. However, when neither the offense nor defense are at its finest, any team can beat the 27-time World Champions. That’s what happened when the Chicago White Sox blew them away in the series opener.
MLB-Worst Chicago Side Humiliated The Yankees In Series Opener
On Monday, the Yankees lost 12-2 to the league’s worst team. The White Sox made the NY side fall flat in the opener of the three-game series this week. Moreover, the White Sox are 29-91. They are the bottom-placed team in the American League Central. No other team in the league has a worse record than them this year yet. On the other hand, the Yankees are 70-50. They are fighting to get back to the top of the American League East division. But the Baltimore Orioles have lost one game less than the Pinstripes. However, the question is why did the Bronx Bombers perform so poorly against the MLB-worst side. Last week, they lost a series against another weak team, the Los Angeles Angels.
But on Monday, Luis Gil had his worst start, which came at a bad time in more than a month. Since the first inning, Gil kept giving away RBI doubles, and later, he gave away a homer to Korey Lee. The rookie starting pitcher posted a 3.25 ERA and went 12-6. Pinstripes didn’t need the shutdown start by Gil. But they failed to take advantage when the leadoff hitter got on base in each of the first four innings. Like losing to the Angels, the NY side seems to miss another opportunity against the White Sox.
Injury Concern For Jazz Chisholm Jr.
The former Miami Marlins outfielder was batting seventh and started at third base. He played his part well with a 2 for 3 game, including, heads up baserunning and a stolen base. Jazz managed to score from second on Anthony Volpe’s hit and run single with two outs in the fifth inning. Chisholm Jr. tried to beat jump throw home of shortstop Nicky Lopez when the ball went to the left side of the infield after Volpe’s hit.
However, the play at the plate seemed to shake things up for Jazz Chisholm Jr. Replays on YES Network showed Jazz moving his left shoulder or arm in discomfort. He seemed to be in pain throughout the dugout. Later, Aaron Boone switched Ben Rice to take Chisholm’s spot in the lineup in the seventh inning. In a quick time, Jazz has become an integral part of the Yankees’ offense. They need him to stay healthy.
