Any team in MLB, let alone the New York Yankees, tends to feel frustrated amid a losing streak. After losing four consecutive series and as many games for the first time this year, the Bombers were unhappy with their own performance to begin with. The frustration was even more palpable on Friday.

The New York Yankees lost series opener against Toronto Blue Jays on Thursday and were getting hammered again on Friday. Tensions flared between Marcus Stroman and Gleyber Torres over an error in defense which forced captain Aaron Judge to step in and calm the situation down.

With bases loaded in the bottom of the fifth innings, New York Yankees starter Marcus Stroman was under pressure to avoid damage as the scores were tied 1-1.  Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hit a high chopper off to shortstop, and Anthony Volpe was quick to get an out at second base. However, Gleyber Torres’ throw to first base was ill-timed and hence, the Blue Jays scored on the error to take a 2-1 lead. A livid Stroman had an immediate outburst as he yelled at Torres before walking off the field and shouting against him in the dugout. Eventually, captain Aaron Judge had to step in and lecture Stroman on his temper. Judge gave a pep talk to the pitcher to be respectful of his teammates as it’s the demand of the Yanks’ clubhouse culture.

Marcus Stroman nodded in agreement and seemed to have accepted his mistake. Meanwhile, Gleyber Torres redeemed himself with a two-run homer in the top of the sixth to level the scores 5-5. As Torres rounded the bases, Stroman was the first on the deck to congratulate him as the duo made amends. That being said, the second baseman revealed in the post-game interview that he had no issues with Marcus’ emotional outburst as he is the one who supports everyone in the clubhouse. They sorted out the differences and shook hands like mature teammates post-game. Stroman argued that his raw emotions came out as he had made a good pitch and desperately wanted the double play to be executed. Yankees manager Aaron Boone also backed Stroman, saying the pitcher is just competitive and that sometimes emotions spill over.

After a mega 16-5 victory over the Blue Jays on Friday, Marcus Stroman took to Twitter to apologise for his emotional outburst on the mound. He argued that he cares deeply about winning and when the passion is intense, raw emotions tends to come out. However, the pitcher accepted that losing his cool on his teammate was not cool.

And going forward, Marcus Stroman vowed to be better on the mound. “Truly love this team and will always compete at the highest level for my brothers,” Stroman wrote in his tweet. Overall, the tensions were doused after Yankees captain Aaron Judge stepped in at the right time to calm Stroman down for the better.
