New York Yankees captain Aaron Judge recorded a sensational month of May as his offensive number went through the roof in one of the most exciting stretches of the season. By the end of the series opener against the Giants, Judge had 20 home runs to his name, out of which 14 were scored in May alone.

However, Aaron Judge’s return to his home town in California didn’t pan out as expected. Judge was visiting San Francisco after 2019 and especially considering how the 2022 free agency unfolded, the Giants fans gave Aaron Judge a hostile reception. Regardless, Yankee captain had a befitting reply in store for them.

The month of May was a period of awakening for New York Yankees captain Aaron Judge after he finished April with a .178 batting average. However, as May entered, Judge flipped a switch to record one of the best stretches of his glorious career. In 93 at-bats that the captain took in May, he posted a .355 batting average with 14 home runs, 23 RBIs, and 1.350 OPS. In his latest onslaught, Judge bombarded his home team, which he grew up watching as a fan, the San Francisco Giants. After Judge dumped Giants during 2022 free agency to return back to the Bronx, the fans grew spiteful and showered the Yankee captain with loud boos as he made his way into Oracle Park for the first time since 2019.

However, Aaron Judge wasn’t bothered by the hostile reception and instead gave it back with a multi-homer game to further rub salt on Giants fans’ wounds. In the third inning, Judge smoked a three-run bomb to add 3 runs to the Yankees’ early lead. And to further extend the lead to 4-1, Judge once again went deep with a 426-foot blast in the sixth inning. As the Yankees captain rounded the bases following the second hit, the Yankee fans welcomed him with MVP chants, which further agitated the Giants fans. Regardless, amid a hostile reception, Judge completely enjoyed his time in California. “Pretty cool. Happy we could come away with the win,” said Judge. And as far as the boos are concerned, the captain certainly didn’t mind it as, by this point, he is accustomed to this atmosphere in away ballparks.

The month of May proved to be momentous not only for Yankees captain Aaron Judge but also Juan Soto as the the duo stacked up some unreal offensive numbers in a prolific stretch. While Judge scored 18 home runs with 45 walks, Soto posted 15 home runs with 40 walks up until the end of May.

With that, Aaron Judge and Juan Soto are now the first hitting pair in MLB history with 40+ walks and 15+ home runs prior to the beginning of June in any season. Riding high on this duo’s offensive masterclass, the New York Yankees repositioned themselves at the top of the AL-East table with a 40-19 record.
