In a season to forget, ace pitcher Gerrit Cole remains the New York Yankees’ knight in shining armor. He is leading the American League in ERA (2.75) and strikeouts (217) while solidifying his maiden CY Young campaign. The ace is leading the favorites chart and is almost the confirmed winner of the AL award, barring any late setbacks.

Gerrit Cole, ever since signing a record nine-year contract in 2020, has continued to develop and emerge as the best pitcher in the league. The Yankees’ collective performance does not do justice to Cole’s salient efforts. Even this year, while the entire lineup has crumbled, the pitcher stood tall and received appreciation from the home fans for the same.

New York Yankees ace pitcher Gerrit Cole is solidifying his CY Young campaign with each passing start. On Thursday, it was a Cole special night as the ace completely outperformed the entire Blue Jays squad. In his 32nd start of the season, the pitcher allowed only one run in eight innings pitched while striking out nine hitters in the process to help the Yanks secure a 5-3 over the East rivals. The home fans seated in the Yankee stadium erupted in joy as they gave a standing ovation to Cole while the pitcher marked his exit after eight terrific innings. The 33-year-old was certainly moved by the fans’ gesture and was overwhelmed by the response.

During the post-game interview, Gerrit Cole thanked the fans for the standing ovation. He further explained how much it means to him to stand out in front of the home crowd. “Something about having good nights in the Bronx – it doesn’t get much better than that,” added Cole. Those who know Cole understand that he loved to win, especially in front of the home crowd. This year, he secured a record 14 wins for his side against a mere seven losses. This latest outing should surely seal the CY Young award for the ace. Only Twins right-hander Sonny Gray, Mariners right-hander Luis Castillo, and Blue Jays right-hander Kevin Gausman are potential competitors. Still, Cole will remain the favorite owing to his staggering numbers.
