Klay Thompson might have been a great fit alongside Los Angeles Lakers Superstar LeBron James. For instance, the chemistry between Stephen Curry and the veteran sharpshooter is one of the best in the league. The Splash Brothers helped the Golden State Warriors become a modern-day dynasty. They won four NBA championships in a span of eight years. However, they could not get to five titles in ten years, as the shooting guard decided to part ways this offseason. After a 13-year-long stint with the Dubs organization, the guard from Portland decided to move to Dallas. Later, the Warriors traded Klay Thompson to the Dallas Mavericks in a unique six-team trade.

As a free agent, Thompson was looking for an ideal duration of a contract that the Dubs failed to offer him. Finally, he signed a three-year contract worth $50 million with the Mavs. However, in his free agency, there were several teams that showed interest in the four-time champion sharpshooter. One team that could benefit from signing him was the Los Angeles Lakers. Perhaps a new dynamic trio could form in LA with Thompson joining the LBJ-AD duo.

Recently, in an interview with NBC Sports, Austin Reaves mentioned that it could have been “Dope” if Klay Thompson could join the Lakers. Later, the Golden State Warriors shared the post on X where Reaves said, “I love Thompson and his mentality towards the game.” Moreover, the Lakers star said there are a lot of things to like about the veteran shooting guard. He praised the four-time champion for being an absolute professional at the highest level. Moreover, Reaves noted, “You should tip your hat to a guy like that.” On top of that, Austin Reaves believes Thompson should receive the biggest standing ovation when he returns next season. Finally, the Lakers guard added that Klay is a hell of a player and a future Hall of Famer. The Warriors guard and LeBron James had been through a fierce rivalry during the period between 2015 and 2018.

Back then, LBJ used to lead the Cleveland Cavaliers, and they faced the Dubs in back-to-back NBA Finals from 2015 to 2018. The GSW had won three of the four finals they played against the LeBron James-led Cavs side. Later, in the 2022-2023 season, LBJ was leading the Lakers when they faced the Dubs in the conference semis. That Round 2 match-up saw the LBJ-led side knocked the Warriors out. After all, they have been through, it would have been interesting to see how it looks when Thompson teams up with LBJ.

Dave McMenamin of ESPN noted that LeBron James believes it is part of the business and everybody should just keep moving on. The all-time leading scorer added that Klay is a great player, and so is DeMar DeRozan. Anyhow, the Lakers front office missed out on both of them. When Thompson signed with the Mavericks, DeRozan signed with the Sacramento Kings this offseason.

LBJ said the front office tried their best, but they could not make it happen. Now, James says they should just move on to figure out a way to keep getting better. The Warriors made a “Fair” offer to Thompson, as per Stephen Curry, which was a two-year extension. However, Klay was looking for at least a three-year deal.
