The New York Yankees missed Jasson Dominguez in the last season when his time in the big league was cut short owing to an injury. Later, the top prospect of the NY side had to undergo Tommy John surgery. As a result, he could not return to the lineup last year. He even missed the first couple of months in the ongoing regular season due to his rehab program. It was not a new information that “The Martian” would miss the first half of the 2024 regular season in the big league. He had to go through rehab assignments in the minor league as he has been recovering after Tommy John surgery.
But it has been a couple of months in the regular season, and Jasson Dominguez has been progressing well in his rehab. The 21-year-old Dominican slugger should have been ready to return to the Yankees lineup, soon. However, suddenly, there is a lack of room for the top prospect in the clubhouse. The Yankees have been enjoying a great run as they are at present 42-19. Everybody is performing well in the team.
Who Can Jasson Dominguez Replace In The Yankees Lineup?
Apparently, Jasson Dominguez has been just a step away from returning to the big league. But the offense of the NY side looks solid and pretty tight at the moment. Where in the offense can the top prospect find a place to join? Aaron Judge and Juan Soto have been the most impactful players for the Yankees as the fans expected them to be. They have excelled in the center and the right field over a couple of months. Moreover, the Designated Hitter Giancarlo Stanton has been in good health and had pretty good production so far. On the other hand, Alex Verdugo, who came from the arch-rivals the Boston Red Sox in the offseason, has excelled on both sides of the ball.
According to Dan Martin of the New York Post, the Yankees might move Jasson Dominguez to Triple-A, extending his rehab. At present, without any injuries to key players, the NY side might not be able to bring back Dominguez to the majors, even though he might be ready for the big league. On Tuesday, the Bronx Bombers extended Jasson’s 20-day rehab assignment to 10 more days. During his rehab, the 21-year-old Dominican slugger last played in Double-A. Now, he will move from Double-A Somerset to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. On his right (throwing) elbow, Jasson had Tommy John surgery back in September 2023.
Aaron Boone Claims The Martian Might Be Incredibly Close To Return To The Majors
As per Dan Martin of The New York Post, Aaron Boone said on the top of his mind he has not been planning to get Dominguez back to the majors. Nevertheless, the 21-year-old Dominican hitter might be “Incredibly Close” in terms of fitness for his major league return. Boone says there might be certain situations when an outfielder is unavailable for a certain length of time.
Then, the manager can think of getting Jasson back to the lineup. However, the way things are going, there is a chance that it might not happen this year. What if the Bronx Bombers keep rolling like they have been for the last two months? About Jasson’s chances of making it back to the lineup, the Yankees skipper said, “We’ll see.”
