Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso are the two oldest F1 drivers on the grid at present. Before joining Mercedes, Hamilton was part of team McLaren. He won his first Driver’s World Championship with his debut team back in 2008. When Hamilton started his journey, his teammate was the two-time champion Fernando Alonso in 2007. They had an intense internal rivalry back in those days. But after more than a decade, as veterans, both have a lot of respect for each other.

The fans and the drivers, too, always remember the love-hate relationship between the two. But the two oldest drivers seem to cross each other paths at present after Aston Martin with Fernando Alonso started taking giant strides this season. There have been a couple of Grand Prix races when Hamilton and Alonso had close battles. Alonso beat Hamilton at one, and the Briton beat the Spaniard in the other. But recently, in an interview on the True Driver program of DAZN, Hamilton got a question if he would like to see Alonso as his teammate again. And his answer to this question has swayed the media.

To the question of reuniting with Fernando Alonso, Lewis Hamilton mentioned that it might happen if the stars align. But the chances are slim to none. Apparently, Hamilton plans to stay with Mercedes for the rest of his career. However, if Alonso had to be Hamilton’s teammate again, then George Russell would have to go away. Mercedes might not want to let Russell go so soon. Despite that, Lewis Hamilton is not ruling out the possibility of teaming up with Fernando Alonso out so soon either. Who knows what’s in store for the future? Recently, the Aston Martin driver called his ex-teammate to be very lucky.

Alonso has a lot of respect for his former McLaren teammate. He mentioned the value of the car in champion drivers’ dominant periods. He noted that Michael Schumacher and Lewis Hamilton both won seven titles. And Max Verstappen is on his way to being a three-time champion this season. The Spaniard himself won a couple. But in the end, it all comes down to the superiority of the respective cars in those periods. Fernando Alonso was not as lucky as Lewis Hamilton to drive a fast car for seven-eight years and win titles with it.

Back in the time, Lewis Hamilton defeated Fernando Alonso in his rookie season. That made the latter leave McLaren after a one-year stint and return to Renault. The Spaniard won a couple of Driver’s World Championships with Renault. Hence, Alonso went back to Renault to try his luck once more with them. But it was not very fruitful. However, the F1 fans became aware of the rivalry between the rookie Briton and the two-time champion.

Later, Hamilton went on to win his first title with McLaren. However, even after winning the first title, Hamilton had to wait a long time for his second title. But when Lewis Hamilton moved to Mercedes in 2013, it changed his life and the sport forever. Mercedes went on to dominate the sport from 2014 to 2021. Lewis Hamilton won six more titles with his new team. But Fernando Alonso has been looking for his third for a long time. However, he had no luck.
