Lewis Hamilton-George Russell

Why Is Lewis Hamilton Unable To Handle The Flawed Mercedes Concept, Unlike George Russell?

Lewis Hamilton is a veteran today, and in fact, he is the second oldest driver on the grid behind Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso. He has got a young and promising teammate, George Russell, who is having a bit of better luck with the car Mercedes has provided them with. Russell had a better time with W13 as well as he finished P4 in 2022. And Lewis Hamilton came sixth last season.

Apparently, the W13 car had a lot of porpoising issues, causing tremendous bounce that cost Mercedes heavily. But the Brackley team has come a long way and reduced that issue to a great extent. However, a new problem with the balance has emerged in their W14 car for the current season. And that is affecting both the Silver Arrows drivers big time. But this time also, it looks like Russell is able to handle another problematic Mercedes car better than Hamilton. And the seven-time world champion has no problem in accepting the fact.

Why Is Hamilton Not Handling The Car Better Than Russell?

After the Saudia Arabian Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton pointed out another issue with the W14 car. He mentioned two problems, out of which he described one of them. It was rear-end downforce. According to Hamilton, there is a real lack of rear in the car that is not letting him attack with confidence. He said that if his team put an extra lot of rear into the car, he would be able to go full throttle. The other problem Lewis mentioned but did not describe is a particular issue that is making Hamilton very uncomfortable. Lewis noted that he had never faced such an issue with the design of the car. It is somehow not suiting him.

On the other hand, Russell has not mentioned any such problems. Instead, he is happy to take the third position after Alonso was given a 10 minutes penalty in the Saudia Arabian Grand Prix. Many experts say that with age Lewis Hamilton is complaining non-stop. But George Russell is handling the car much better. He is less complaining and enjoying more being part of a powerhouse of the sport after his troublesome years with the Williams racing team.

Lewis Hamilton Is Focused On Turning Things Around

Lewis Hamilton is 38, and George Russell is 25 years old. Hence, there is a massive age gap between the two. Hamilton is eagerly waiting for his eighth driver’s world championship title. On the other hand, George Russell is looking to win his second Grand Prix after the first in Brazil last year. Meanwhile, in a recent interview, Hamilton talked about why he did not manage to beat his teammate. The seven-time champ mentioned that it was only a 50-50 chance. More often than not, the way Russell was going was wrong, but it seemed to work. Hence, according to Lewis Hamilton, even though he was going the right way, it did not work out.

Albeit, Hamilton assured that he would work out the matter and would try to get the best out for the both of them. Since Lewis is not getting any younger, he may look for another team that provides him with the car that suits him more. It might help him to achieve his dream of winning the coveted eighth title. But Lewis Hamilton said he is staying with the Brackley team. As long as he and Wolff are okay with each other. No reason to think otherwise at the moment.
