Aaron Judge has been breaking several records since his MLB debut back in 2017. He won the 2022 American League MVP because he broke the all-time single-season AL HR record. Previously, the record belonged to the New York Yankees legend Roger Maris, who hit 61 home runs back in 1961. After so many years, in 2022, another legend of the NY side was able to reach 62 home runs. It was none other than the California native. As a result, he won the AL MVP and later was the biggest free agent in that offseason. The Yankees signed him for a nine-year deal that was worth $360 million. That was the biggest free agent signing until, in 2023, Shohei Ohtani broke every free agent record.

After all, the Unicorn signed a massive $700 million contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers. It’s present-day value is around $460 million. Putting the contract records aside, the 2022 AL MVP also became the 16th captain of the Bronx Bombers in their glorious franchise history. However, Aaron Judge still needs to lead the side to a World Series victory. Then, and only then, can he claim to be one of the Yankees greats. Lately, a former slugger drew comparisons between Judge and another all-time great, Miguel Cabrera.

Recently, J.J. Cooper of Baseball America gave a comparative study between Aaron Judge and Miguel Cabrera. These are the two of the best hitters in recent memory. In their respective eras, fans could vote for them as the best slugger of the era. Lately, the comparative study of Cooper showed that Aaron Judge has better stats than Cabrera. The California native has enjoyed a better four-year stretch from 2021 to 2024 than Miguel Cabrera did from 2009 to 2012. Clearly, the stats prove that the Yankees captain has been very impressive over the last several seasons. In a recent episode of the Foul Territory, former MLB hitter A.J. Pierzynski, mentioned that he felt like Cooper was trying to diminish what Miguel Cabrera had achieved in the American League Central.

A.J. added that he speaks from experience as he had played against Cabrera and had seen Judge play as well. Pierzynski played for the Minnesota Twins and the Chicago White Sox for the most part of his career. Since he played against the Detroit Tigers star a lot, he feels Cooper was not giving Miguel Cabrera enough credit. Moreover, A.J. added that it did not matter what kind of pitch it was as Cabrera could hit them all. Later, in response to Pierzynski, Cooper said, “I didn’t mean to denigrate what Miguel did.”

There is no doubt that Miguel Cabrera was tough as he could hit any pitch with a lot of power and send it deep. But what the California native is doing in 2024 is quite hard to beat by anyone from the past or present. Aaron Judge had a slow start to the season. But from May up to the present day, the 2022 AL MVP took the league by storm.

He leads the league in Home runs, RBIs, and also OPS in the ongoing season. Also, Judge is second in the league in terms of batting average. Clearly, he is the most favorite to win his second American League MVP award this year.  Now, the fans wonder can he lead the Yankees to their 28th World Series win.
