This year, the New York Yankees felt extra pressure entering the opening day due to ace Gerrit Cole’s absence. The reigning AL CY Young pitcher brushed his elbow entering spring and has been ruled out for the next 10 weeks. To fill the gap in the rotation, the Yanks called up prospect Luis Gil.

However, the New York Yankees still lacked a leader, as Carlos Rodon had a bust debut year in 2023. Fans had lost faith in him and had no idea how he would turn up in his second year. However, Rodon proved his doubters and critics wrong to start strong in 2024.

New York Yankees’ supposed lead starter of the 2024 MLB season, Carlos Rodon, took the mound on Friday for his season debut. In 4.2 innings, Rodon went for a mere one run in five hits and struck out four hitters in the process. His primary weapon is the fastballs at 95.7 mph, with some clocking 98s. While the numbers weren’t exceptional, it will go down as a strong start for someone who finished over a 6.85 ERA in 2023. Moreover, reacting on his outlook for the rebound season, Rodon said he believes in himself. As long as he is confident of making a difference on the mound, the rest is just noise. Rodon also added that Yanks’ trust does not matter to him as he is the one taking the mound on the field.

However, the New York Yankees for sure believe in him. Skipper Aaron Boone said pre-season that Carlos Rodon needs no extra pressure from the team. He is self-aware of the things he needs to prove to the fans. Moreover, Boone added that after a flop year, Rodon is angry and channelized that frustration into something fruitful over the off-season. The pitcher appeared in much fitter shape during the off-season. The transformation followed by fastball revival helped Rodon guide the Yanks to a win on Friday. Having said that, the season is long, and Carlos Rodon must prioritize staying healthy over everything. His commands and stuff have been promising. Given that Rodon lasts through the 162-game stretch, the results will follow. Overall, a crucial season is coming up for Carlos Rodon.
