“We Got Waxed,” Gerrit Cole’s Candid Take On Yankees’ 2022 ALCS Loss Against Houston Astors

New York Yankees lead pitcher Gerrit Cole addressed the media after a successful day at spring training.

Yesterday, New York Yankees’ pitcher and catchers reported for the spring training session at Tampa, Florida. The rest of the team is likely to join the camp in the forthcoming days. Meanwhile, a few players from the offence front arrived in Florida a little early to have some workout sessions. The Yanks began their spring training campaign by facing Phillies on 25th February 2023.

Meanwhile, the Bronx Bombers are coming in the new season after a heartbreaking ALCS defeat against Houston Astros in 2022. After registering record 99 wins, the Yanks arrived in the ALCS as favourites. Moreover, just when the fans built up hope of a championship title, the Bombers cracked against Astros and were handed a humiliating defeat. Speaking on the same, Yankees pitcher, Gerrit Cole had a brutally honest take.

New York Yankees starting pitcher Gerrit Cole had a disappointing end to his 2022 season, as the team fell to the Houston Astros in the ALCS. And recently, Cole, who signed a massive contract with the Yankees before the 2020 season, got candid with the media and put forth an honest opinion. After spring training, Gerrit Cole and Carlos Rodon addressed a press meet.

Speaking on the ALCS loss, Gerrit Cole said, “we go waxed”. Cole elaborated his statement further, saying you never feel good about getting waxed, be it in a salon or on a baseball field. Further, the pitcher admitted the New York Yankees’ shortcomings during the game. The 32-year-old said he watched the game and realized that the Yanks got outplayed by the Astros in every aspect and area of the game. This is the third time the Astros swept the Yanks in the ALCS.

“I didn’t really see an area where we played better than them,” said Gerrit Cole.

Aaron Boone Unsure About Beating Astros This Season

In the past six years, Houston Astros have managed to defeat the New York Yankees three times in ALCS. Despite a strong start, the Bombers somehow choke in the finals. Meanwhile, this season, the Yanks did a fair job in the off-season and built a strong bullpen. However, despite of all their efforts, Yankees manager, Aaron Boone, showed too little faith in the roster.

Aaron Boone, while addressing a press meet, said he is unsure if the current Yankees roster is good enough to beat Houston Astros. The skipper feels it’s too early to tell if the roster has what it takes to beat the Astros, as they are in just the training phase. The true picture will come out only when the roster is put to the test in the regular season. Meanwhile, the spring training will begin on February 25, and the opening day of the 2023 MLB season will commence somewhere around the last week of March.
