The New York Yankees fumbled an easy win on Tuesday as Washington Nationals’ underperforming pitcher pitched a scoreless six innings start. With the three-game series tied 1-1, the Yanks stepped out in the Nationals Park on Wednesday, hoping to prevail in the important rubber game.

However, the New York Yankees starter for the day, Carlo Rodon, had a shaky outing, resulting in a 5-2 loss. The offence tried their best to salvage the damage, but Rodon’s early flunk, coupled with a bizarre balk call controversy, doomed the Yanks as they ended up with a series loss against a dispirited Nationals.

Carlos Rodon Flagged For Balk Call Vs Nationals

Carlos Rodon, the New York Yankees’ left-handed starting pitcher, was visibly frustrated after a controversial balk call led to a bizarre run in their recent game against the Washington Nationals. The balk call came in the bottom of the first inning with the Yanks trailing 0-1. Rodon had already allowed a home run before letting runners secure first and third base. The pitcher was in his windup when the plate umpire called a balk, stating that he had made an illegal motion that deceived the runner. That call allowed the person on third base to move home and score, which made Rodon furious. He animatedly charged towards the umpire to argue that his PitchCom device was faulty, which forced him to move away from the mound rubber.

Meanwhile, New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone rushed into the middle to separate the face-off and ensure that Carlos Rodon did not get tossed into a fit of emotions. That being said, the PitchCom issue persisted which forced catcher Austin Wells to use hand gestures. But the damage was already done as Rodon finished with 5 earned runs on 8 hits across 5.2 innings. After the game, Rodón did not hold back in expressing his frustration with the call. “The balk, I was pissed about it. I didn’t step off soon enough. But the PitchCom wasn’t working,” Rodon said. The pitcher was more upset about allowing a run for a stupid reason, which in turn created extra pressure on the offence. However, Austin Wells refused to use the PitchCom malfunction as an excuse, as he feels the team should take accountability for the loss.

The New York Yankees dropped an easy series against the Washington Nationals in the midst of a fierce playoff race. After the 5-2 loss on Wednesday, manager Aaron Boone admitted that the team didn’t perform well enough to create scoring opportunities. “We didn’t do enough the last couple of nights with pushing runs across, and we lost the series,” Boone said.

However, its just a part and parcel of baseball, believes Aaron Boone. He backed the New York Yankees to regroup through the off-day and come out a fresh for the upcoming series against St.Louis Cardinals. Notably, the Yanks still hold a game lead in AL-East to remain in sole possession of the top spot.
