Aaron Judge, the New York Yankees captain and former MVP, was criticized heavily for his rare slump this year. In April, Judge posted .220 batting average, .361 on-base percentage and .811 OPS. However, May proved to be a month of a resurgence as the captain began to show signs of a breakout.

The New York Yankees captain homered alongside Juan Soto and Giancarlo Stanton against the Brewers in a series filled with controversies. However, in the recent away series against the Tampa Bay Rays, Judge once again exploded with a big hit to unlock a major season milestone, which forced fans to raise MVP chants.

New York Yankees captain Aaron Judge, after giving an initial heartache to fans with a rare slump, is now showing signs of resurgence in May. After two successful series against the Brewers and Tigers, Judge continued to showcase his brilliance against the Tampa Bay Rays. In the series finale on Sunday, Judge smoked a towering 374-foot two-run homer to add to Yanks 6-0 lead in the fifth innings. That marked Judge’s 10th home run of the year, and he surpassed Juan Soto to become the Yankee slugger with the most long hits this season. Notably, the 31-year-old now has four home runs in the past seven games, which is remotely similar to his MVP trajectory. Hence, fans have once again developed hope of a deep and successful run from the captain.

That being said, the resurgence of MVP chants for Aaron Judge comes as no surprise to those familiar with his track record of excellence. In 2022, when the Yankees captain bagged his career first AL-MVP award, the slugger started slow and picked up pace in the latter half of the season to script an all-time high home run record, which still remains unbeaten. Hence, despite the present challenges, Judge has remained resilient and determined to prove his worth. And his recent home run streak is a testament to his unwavering commitment to excellence. For Yankees fans, Judge’s resurgence at the plate is a welcome sight, as they recognize the pivotal role he plays in the team’s success and their postseason aspirations. With his imposing presence in the lineup, Judge will be the driving force behind the New York Yankees’ offense this year.

Amid resounding MVP chants, former New York Yankees hitting coach Sean Casey warned the fans to not rule out captain Aaron Judge from the MVP race just yet. He may have started the season slow. But is very much capable of picking up pace and covering the lost ground in the latter half of the season.

“Don’t sleep on Judgy,” said Sean Casey in a recent interaction with MLB network. Casey, who worked closely with Aaron Judge last year, believes that when the captain gets going, he does not stop and becomes an invincible threat. Indeed, Judge has picked up pace in May in just a week and is poised to have a deep and successful season.
