Max Verstappen has won seven races for Red Bull this year, as Sergio Perez has been very inconsistent. Moreover, for the Austrian outfit, it has been the same story over the years. When the Dutch racer continues to win the lion’s share of every season’s races, his teammate Checo continues to struggle to find consistency. In 2022 and then again last year, the Mexican driver managed to win two years in each of those seasons. He started off well last season but could not hold on to the momentum. Then, he also suffered from depression, as he had to hire a mental coach to get his mind right.

Later, Perez talked about the high pressure he had to deal with being Verstappen’s teammate. Then, Checo had to deal with a lot of criticism from Helmut Marko, the senior advisor of Red Bull Racing and the fans as well. Anyway, he again had a good start in the ongoing season, showing good consistency. But he could not win a race so far. Then, again, he lost the consistency somewhere along the way. Anyway, lately, Max Verstappen defended his teammate.

During the Canadian Grand Prix weekend this year, Red Bull officially announced Sergio Perez’s two-year contract extension. However, since then, Checo’s form on track has been on a downward slope. Since the Miami GP again, Sergio Perez failed to finish in the top five. Then, he crashed in the Monaco GP and in the Canadian GP as well. In the recently concluded triple header, fans saw Checo garner only 11 points. When Red Bull is trying to maintain their lead in the Constructor standings, Checo’s current form has been a disaster. Recently, in an interview with The Telegraaf, Max Verstappen mentioned that when a team is struggling during several weekends, it can be difficult for any driver to be consistent. Hence, the Dutch racer said that it is not right to say it is all “Checo’s fault.”

Moreover, the three-time reigning champion added that recently, it has been “Very challenging for me as well to get the best out of the car.” Clearly, RB20 is not as great as its predecessor. With RB19, Max won a record 19 races, and overall, the team won 21, as Checo came out with two wins. But this year, Verstappen says during several races, he faced hard times due to the current car. Apparently, Adrian Newey, too, expressed issues with certain design elements. However, the RBR team went along anyway with what Pierre Wache felt was right. But due to that the two drivers failed to drive at their best this year.

Recently, Christian Horner told the media that Checo will need to step up soon, which will help him as well as the team win the championship. Moreover, Red Bull might bring new upgrades to Hungary. Lately, Sergio Perez seemed to agree with the team principal, talking about the need to see his improvement soon.

Checo added that the team is fully focused on what’s happening out there on the track. Moroever, he said that everybody knows that it is a very long season. Hence, there are a lot of races still remaining. Meanwhile, Checo believes, “Things can change pretty quickly. That’s why I’m completely focused.”
