Juan Soto has been a great addition to the New York Yankees roster. He has had the biggest impact so far in the NY side’s offense. The team needed the boost after a terrible 2023 season. They failed to make the postseason for the first time since 2016. Moreover, the Bronx Bombers finished with an awful 82-80 record, finishing fourth in the American League East division. They narrowly avoided the last-place finish in the previous season. It was their worst season in the last 30 years of their franchise history. Moreover, the Yankees had the second-worst batting average in the league last season.

Coming from that terrible season, the front office did a great job landing the best hitter in baseball. Immediately, the organization can see the difference in terms of WAR. Moreover, after more than a couple of months in the 2024 regular season, the Yankees are enjoying the best record in baseball. Thanks to Juan Soto, who is a top contender to win the American League Most Valued Player award this year. Lately, the Yankees won their 50th game of the season, beating their arch-rivals, the Boston Red Sox, in the very first game of the three-game series. But Juan Soto talked about the tough loss the Yankees faced against the Kansas City Royals in Game 4.

On Thursday, The Royals beat the NY side 4-3. However, the Bronx Bombers had won the first three games of the four-game series. Hence, the Yankees missed the opportunity to complete a sweep. If they had managed to do so, then they would have won their 50th win in Game 4 against the Royals and not wait for a match-up against their division rivals. However, Juan Soto had a more or less okay game on Thursday. He went 2 for 4 with one RBI and no runs. Moreover, he struck out once. For seven innings, the offense remained scoreless. Later, Juan Soto talked about his team’s performance in the post-game interview.

He said that he was pushing his teammates and told them that they tried to win. Moreover, Soto mentioned, “I wanted to be up for sure.” But he went on to praise his teammates for bringing the run in. They even tried to put Juan Soto in the inning as well. Moreover, the Dominican slugger said, “Yeah, I was quite excited about that.” On top of that, there was an interference incident that caused problems with the Dominican superstar’s swing.

The Interference Call Didn’t Go In Favor Of The Yankees

Juan Soto experienced the interference in the fourth inning. He thought the Royal’s catcher interfered with his swing. Perhaps the catcher’s mitt got in the way of Soto’s check swing. Moreover, the replay even suggested that there might have been little contact. Nonetheless, the Yankees could not challenge the call because they had lost their only challenge quite early in the game.

Then, it came down to the home plate umpire. But he did not see any interference. Hence, the ump ruled the pitch a ball. But Juan Soto said in the post-game interview that he felt a glove but no ball. That’s the reason why he asked. He sounded pretty sure about a catching interference.
