On Wednesday, someone with a fake LeBron James account stirred panic among the Lakers\’ camp and their fans. Fake LeBron James Twitter Handle Demands Trade From Lakers!
The uncertainty and humiliation of falling for a fraudulent Twitter account are probably familiar to the majority of sports fans. But because of Elon Musk\’s 8-dollar blue tick policy, it is now far simpler to trick people on Twitter than it was previously.
The blue tick, previously exclusively provided to verified handles and Twitter public accounts, may now be purchased for $8 per month by anybody. There have been several bogus accounts have emerged since the feature\’s rollout as a result of Twitter Blue. Some Twitter users are already mimicking athletes, corporations, and other public figures in order to take advantage of the platform\’s new for-purchase verification badges.
On Wednesday, a fake Twitter account impersonating LeBron James made a trade request from the LA Lakers. Basketball fans worldwide briefly became upset when the account tweeted that he was asking the Lakers for a trade. Because the post surprised supporters, word of James\’ request for a trade spread swiftly on social media. It was found that a fake individual was using the account in the midst of the confusion. Since then, several people have noted that James isn\’t the only one to be impersonated on Twitter.
Not only were fans offended, but even seasoned NFL writer Adam Schefter, when a user posing as him tweeted a false allegation that the head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders, Josh McDaniels, had been sacked. ESPN insider Adam Schefter was impersonated by a second, newly verified account. The account was suspended after that. But utilized the profile picture from Schefter\’s genuine account.
Furthermore, a bogus Aroldis Chapman\’s account, he would sign a three-year extension with the Yankees. For $8, a man offered to sell you the identity of Connor McDavid, a well-known Oilers player. And then claimed that he had been traded to the Islanders. However, both accounts have been suspended by Twitter. People were worried for just this reason when Elon decided to hand out blue checks to any Twitter Blue users without any sort of screening. And thus far, it has caused some people plenty of headaches.
