In 2023, the New York Yankees faced a lot of injury issues that cost them the season. Subsequently, the NY side failed to make the postseason. Moreover, injuries to key players like Aaron Judge, Anthony Rizzo, and Jasson Dominguez were a huge blow to the 27-time champion’s campaign. These veterans, as well as young names on the roster, stayed on the Injured List for a long time. In the end, the Bronx Bombers finished with an awful 82-80 record. It was their worst season in the last 30 years. Later, in the offseason, the Yankees made several changes that were pretty significant for their lineup. But injuries have always been a big obstacle for the iconic MLB team. Even during spring training, Gerrit Cole and Aaron Judge sustained injuries.

Both the superstar hitter and the AL 2023 Cy Young winner are very important for the Yankees’ chances this year. But Cole won’t return for one to two months back to the lineup due to right elbow inflammation. On the other hand, Aaron Judge seems to take some time to get back to his groove after sustaining an abdominal injury. Moreover, the Yankees Infielder DJ LeMahieu sustained a right foot fracture and will be out of action for weeks. On the other hand, the Yankees were waiting for their reliever, Tommy Kahnle, to return to the lineup soon. But it seems like that will take some time, too.

Tommy Kahnle Hit Another Speed Bump On His Road Back To The Lineup

Since the start of the 2024 season, Tommy Kahnle has been on the 15-day Injured List. The reason for that was his late start to the throwing program in the offseason. Moreover, the reliever suffered a shoulder issue that ended his 2023 season. Lately, the Yankees have stalled him once again. Last week, Kahnle had a live batting practice session in Tampa, as per The New York Post. But the reliever did not bounce back as well as the team expected him to. Before the Yankees beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 5-2 on Monday, Aaron Boone said Kahnle’s progress has slowed down “A little bit.” Moreover, as per Greg Joyce of The New York Post, the Yankees manager informed that Kahnle is back in his throwing program.

Aaron Boone also mentioned that he is not sure how long it will slow the reliever to get back to the lineup. Previously, the target for the NY side was the April 12-14 series in Cleveland as the return date for Tommy Kahnle. But it seems they have to postpone the estimated return date for the reliever. Already, the Bronx Bombers have a couple of relievers on the 60-day Injured List, such as Lou Trivino and Scott Effross. But on Monday, Boone said he did not know when Tommy Kahnle could start his rehab assignment.

Lately, The Yankees Signed Jake Cousins

The newest addition to the New York Yankees bullpen is the cousin of the Falcon’s star quarterback Kirk Cousins. On Monday, the Yankees activated Jake Cousins to their bullpen. They acquired Cousins in a trade with the Chicago White Sox on Sunday. Moreover, the White Sox traded Jake in return for cash considerations.

Last December, Cousins signed a minor league deal with the Chicago franchise and then spent spring training with them. However, the White Sox had assigned the RHP to their Triple-A league for starting the season. Then, the Yankees came into the picture and traded for him. Finally, they immediately added Cousins to their roster.
