Sergio Perez has been an integral part of Red Bull in the last few years. Since 2022, the Austrian outfit has been the most dominant team in the grid. They have won all the constructor titles so far in the cost cap era. But the shift in power started happening since the last race of 2021. That was the last year of the turbo-hybrid engines. Mercedes won their eighth consecutive constructor title that season. However, unlike other seasons in the turbo-hybrid era, they didn’t win the Driver’s World Championship. Lewis Hamilton was so close to winning his eighth title and fifth in a row.
But Max Verstappen of Red Bull spoiled Hamilton’s party. Clearly, the Dutch racer has been the most dominant driver on the grid since 2022, having won his maiden title in the previous year. But Sergio Perez played an important role in helping Max win the 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Even Verstappen had credited his teammate after winning the final showdown in 2021. Since then, the gap between the two Red Bull drivers has constantly increased. Despite certain rumors suggesting the Austrian outfit might replace Checo, a contract extension has been confirmed.
Sergio Perez Will Stay Part Of Red Bull Till 2026
Lately, Red Bull announced their 2025 driver’s lineup. That’s when they finalized the second seat for Checo alongside Max Verstappen. 2024 was the final year of Checo’s previous contract with Christian Horner’s team. Hence, after finalizing the second seat of the driver’s lineup for the next season, there is confirmation that Sergio Perez will stay part of the Milton Keynes team. Albeit the Mexican driver has been going through a bit of a slump, among his latest achievements he has helped the team to have their first 1-2 finish in the Driver’s standings. Moreover, he started the 2024 season with a back-to-back P2 finish. However, the gap between the two Red Bull drivers in terms of performance has been a hot topic of discussion.
Lately, in an official release, Sergio Perez commented after extending his contract for two more years. The Mexican driver mentioned that he is very happy to commit his future “To this great team.” Moreover, he added that it is a huge challenge to race for a team like Oracle Red Bull Racing. He said it is tough both on and off the track. Nevertheless, Checo said it is nothing short of extreme delight for him to stay with the team and get the opportunity to contribute more to this “Great” team’s history. Expanding his statement, Checo said it is an immense challenge to race for Red Bull, but “The one I love.”
Christian Horner Very Happy To Extend Checo’s Contract
The Red Bull boss told the media, including Sportskeeda, that it is the right time to confirm their 2025 Driver’s lineup. Moreover, he is very happy to continue working with the Mexican driver. Christian Horner added that Max and Sergio have been their winning combination since 2022. Moreover, Horner praised Perez for his better start this season. Checo improved his performance in the qualifying sessions.
Then, he had podium finishes in Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, and lastly in China. Moreover, Sergio Perez said that he is grateful to the team for showing faith in him. Adding to that, Checo says he wants to return the favor with stellar performances on and off track. He said he has a lot of faith in this team’s future, saying, “It’s a bright future ahead and a lot more titles to win.”
