Shohei Ohtani and Juan Soto are two of the biggest names in modern-day baseball. Last year, the Unicorn broke the free agency record of the other modern-day great, Aaron Judge’s nine-year extension worth $360 million. The Japanese sensation signed a massive free agency contract with the modern-day ‘Evil Empire,’ Los Angeles Dodgers, for a ten-year deal worth $700 million. That record might be hard to break for any free agent in the future. However, when it comes to the value of the contract adjusted for inflation and other factors, Ohtani’s contract will be worth between $400 million and $500 million. Surely, that record can get broken.

Perhaps next offseason, Juan Soto can break Ohtani’s contract value. The kind of season the Dominican slugger is enjoying at present with the Yankees, he will surely be the biggest free agent at the end of the 2024 season. Considering his age, Soto can sign a $500-600 million deal over 13-14 years. But which team will finally land the Dominican superstar? During the Midsummer Classic this year, Soto suggested that he would love to team up with Shohei Ohtani.

So far, Juan Soto and Shohei Ohtani have not played in the same league. When the Japanese sensation was dominating the American League until last year, the Dominican slugger was making a name for himself in the National League. Soto played and won the World Series with the Washington Nationals in 2019. He even was the NL Batting champion in 2020. Moreover, the lefty Dominican slugger has won four Silver Slugger awards. Last year, he was with the San Diego Padres. On the other hand, Ohtani, who spent all these years with the Los Angeles Angels, moved to the city rivals, the LA Dodgers, last offseason. Now, he is dominating the National League as he is a top contender to win the MVP this year.

Last month, Soto and Ohtani faced off against each other, representing the AL and NL, respectively. During a press interview at the All-Star event, Juan Soto said that teaming up with Ohtani would be an exciting prospect. However, on several occasions this year, Soto indicated that he wishes to stay with the pinstripes for a long time. But the New York Post’s Jon Heyman reported that if the ‘Childish Bambino’ leaves the Bronx Bombers, then there are four teams who can land him. As per the MLB insider, the LA Dodgers, the New York Mets, the Boston Red Sox and the Philadelphia Phillies have the best chance. Hence, there is a good possibility that after Aaron Judge, Soto might team up with another modern-day great, Shohei Ohtani.

Since he joined the Bronx Bombers, Juan Soto has very easily won all the affection from the fans. He has said several times that at the Yankee Stadium, he felt very much at home because of the huge diaspora. Moreover, Soto’s having the best season of his career this year as he slashed .300/.432/.601.

Adding to that, the 2020 NL Batting Champion has hit 35 home runs this year along with 4 triples and 24 doubles, 87 RBIs over 121 plate appearances. Clearly, this number makes him one of the biggest pillars of the NY side’s offense. Moreover, his dynamic chemistry with Aaron Judge has worked miracles for the team.
