This Is Why Gleyber Torres Doesn’t Want To Leave New York Yankees Ever

The New York Yankees had a pretty horrible 2023 season. They could not make the postseason in the first place. Moreover, the NY side had the second-worst batting average. Only the nine-time champions, the Oakland Athletics, had it even worse than the Bronx Bombers. On top of that, the NY side finished with an awful 82-80 record. It was their worst season in the last 30 years. Moreover, they had a really long Injured List previous year. That did not help their clause. On top of that, Aaron Judge hurt his toe really badly last year. The Yankees captain’s absence proved to be the biggest blow of the previous season.

During this difficult period, if there was one hitter who impressed the most, then it was Gleyber Torres. In the previous seasons, Torres was going through a tough time. Then, the Yankees made him a subject of trade rumors ahead of the 2023 season. Perhaps that is what worked as a source of motivation for Torres. He put forward a strong campaign last year. However, that does not stop the Bronx Bombers from trading him. Moreover, he is also entering the final year of his Yankees contract. But Gleyber Torres does not want to leave the Yankees ever.

In 2023, Gleyber Torres hit .273/.347/.453 and 25 home runs along with 68 RBI. Moreover, he became a finalist for the Silver Slugger Award. Hence, Torres proved to be one of the bright spots of a really disappointing season for the Yankees. After a long time, the Yankees are a contender for the World Series again. That’s what encourages Torres to go out there and perform for the team. He wants to help the Yankees win the World Series. On Wednesday, Gleyber Torres told the media that he does not want to leave the Bronx Bombers. Moreover, he wants to be a Yankee for life.

The NY side can value this kind of players who are very comfortable in the clubhouse and wants to perform passionately for the franchise. In January, the Yankees and Torres agreed on a $14.2 million contract for the upcoming season to avoid arbitration. Torres joined the Bronx Bombers in 2016 from the Chicago Cubs. He was a headlining prospect when he joined the franchise. A couple of years later, the 27-year-old made his MLB debut and started looking like a potential cornerstone of the Pinstripes. After all, in his first couple of seasons in 2018 and 2019, he earned All-Star selections.

The only way he can confirm a long-term deal with the Yankees is if he has another strong season this year. Since 2020, Torres’s performance kept getting worse. However, in 2023, he bounced back hard. But unfortunately, the team had their worst season in recent times last year.

But the Yankees can consider Torres as he was the only guy to stand solid in that rough year. Moreover, the team is looking to redeem themselves in 2024. If Torres can keep performing at a high level, he will surely raise his chances to be a Yankee for life.
