Mercedes lost its place at the top of the grid to Red Bull two years ago. There was a point when it looked like the Sun would never set in the Mercedes Empire in Formula 1. But it did a couple of years ago. Now, it seems like the German outfit is falling apart with Lewis Hamilton leaving the team next season. The seven-time champion will join Ferrari next season. Moreover, Toto Wolff had been looking at a lot of options for a suitable replacement for Hamilton. It seems like they are sticking to the young Italian prodigy, Andrea Kimi Antonelli.

This young talented driver from F2 was a favorite to win the Mercedes seat for a long time. Anyway, since the start of the current season, the Brackley team fell further behind in the standings as McLaren and Ferrari had an even better package than them. On the other hand, Red Bull has still been the most dominant team in the grid. However, Mercedes seems to make a strong comeback since the Canadian Grand Prix. George Russell had a strong performance with a pole position in Montreal.

Recently, on the F1 Nation Podcast, the host Tom Clarkson pointed out the recent adjustment that Mercedes made as their “Eureka moment.” This adjustment seems to dramatically bolster the competitiveness of the Mercedes car. Moreover, Clarkson mentioned that the adjustment, quite undoubtedly, revolves around the flexi front wing. But the F1 pundit believes that the Brackley team must stay within the regulations. Moreover, Clarkson says that the flexi front wing must carry a certain load. The regulations don’t allow it to flex more than a certain amount, especially with the load on it. All they need to do is pass the test regarding the front wing. Then, they can do whatever they want beyond that.

The host of the F1 Nation Podcast mentioned that Red Bull nailed the flexi front wing in their car from the start of the 2022 season. Now, Toto Wolff’s team seems to nail it down. Hence, it has been a “Eureka moment” for the German outfit. Moreover, Clarkson says that since Mercedes has found it things will get very exciting moving forward in F1. Perhaps Clarkson has a point. After all, since Mercedes had the new upgrades in Canada, George Russell beat Max Verstappen for pole position. However, the Briton didn’t manage to beat Verstappen or McLaren’s Lando Norris on the final race day in Montreal.

Clarkson Wonders, “Who’ll Win In Spain?”

Now, the fact is that Mercedes has gotten stronger than they were before. Then, there are three top teams – Red Bull, McLaren, and the Brackley outfit. Ferrari struggled a lot in Canada. Hence, Tom Clarkson makes a good question – who will in Barcelona? The host of the F1 Nation Podcast believes Red Bull will return with stronger package. Moreover, he said McLaren “Are so good now.”

But now, it seems like “Mercedes are gradually coming on for the discussion.” At least, they confirmed it in Montreal, believes Clarkson. He said, “They are back.” But the host said that the Silver Arrows might still not be at the high-speed level of their rivals, Red Bull. Nonetheless, Clarkson feels Mercedes will start contending every weekend from now on.
