“They Know Where To Call,” Juan Soto Avoid Extension Talks In Yankees Introductory Press Meet!

25-year-old generational talent Juan Soto is now officially a Yankee. The New York Yankees traded him last week from San Diego Padres in a blockbuster seven-player exchange. While the Yanks got Soto and Trent Grisham, the Padres received Michael King, Jhony Brito, Randy Vasquez, Drew Thrope, and Kyle Higashioka.

While the exchange package seemed steep for one year of Soto’s services, Brian Cashman feels the deal was worth the risk. Meanwhile, Soto appeared in Yankee colors for the first time in his introductory virtual press conference and shared his thoughts about the franchise in detail. During the media round, the outfielder also shed light on his plans to extend his stay in the Bronx beyond the 2024 season.

Superstar outfielder Juan Soto was introduced to the media for the first time as a Yankee player on Tuesday. He addressed reporters via Zoom call and took questions turn by turn. Firstly, Soto expressed his excitement about joining an elite ball club. While he is excited to join the team, his initial priority is to build a personal connection with his teammates. A strong camaraderie is the key to success in team sports, feels the outfielder. The 25-year-old further added the vibe of the Yankee stadium, which has always been great. Even when he was getting booed as an opponent, Soto thoroughly enjoyed the stadium atmosphere. “It was pretty cool for me, and it was a great experience,” said Juan Soto.

Furthermore, Juan Soto addressed the burning question of how long he plans on staying in the Bronx. The outfielder is set to become a free agent at the end of the 2024 season. However, the 25-year-old refused to reveal his stance. He said the Yankees know whom and where to call for extension negotiations. Soto is a baseball player, and that’s all he is currently focused on. As far as extension talks are concerned, Scott Boras will handle those things on his behalf. “Scott Boras is my agent. I put everything on him and let him give his advice,” said Soto. Additionally, the outfielder reaffirmed his intentions of fighting for a championship in the pinstripes. He says that always has been his goal, irrespective of what teams he plays for.

Meanwhile, Juan Soto was also asked to reveal his preferred outfield position at Yankee Stadium. The outfielder smartly responded, saying he is flexible enough to mold as per the team’s needs. “Whatever spot in the lineup, whatever position they want me to play, I’m going to be right there,” said Soto. Having said that, the outfielder also talked about the dynamics of Yankee Stadium’s left-field wall.

He says while the left wall is short, he won’t compromise on his swing to maximize advantage. His approach would stay the same regardless of the venue dynamics. Soto is extremely confident and secure in his abilities and does not feel the need to change anything whatsoever. Ultimately, Juan Soto is gearing up to bring glory to the Yankees, at least for the 2024 season.
