It is known to everyone that Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton wants the world champion title back very badly. He wants to win the coveted eighth title surpassing the F1 great Michael Schumacher. These two legends share the same number of titles at present. Nobody else has touched the seven-time championship victory mark. However, the way things stand, it seems the new sensation from Red Bull, Max Verstappen, may touch Hamilton and Schumacher. Till then, Lewis will have to try to get back the title that once was his.
Apparently, Max Verstappen snatched the victory along with the time from Lewis in 2021 by a narrow margin. Since then, he is just not letting it go and showing no sign of letting anybody come close to snatching the title away from him. Last year, the Dutchman broke Michael Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel’s record of winning the most number of races in a single season. The two German racers held the record for 13 wins in a season. But Max won 15 last year. In the current season as well, the Red Bull sensation has already won five after seven races, and his teammate Sergio Perez won the other two. Clearly, team Red Bull is enjoying dominance with the fastest car at present.
But Mercedes found some brief happiness in Barcelona, Spain, last weekend as they secured their first double-podium finish of the season. Lewis Hamilton finished behind Max Verstappen at P2 again after the Australian Grand Prix, and George Russell earned his first podium finish this season. Lewis winning two podium finishes this season has taken his tally to 193 podiums in his career. But he won’t calm down until he wins the driver’s world championship again. We know how close he was to winning his eighth in Abu Dhabi back in 2021. But everything went topsyturvy from there on. Hence, the seven-time champion is looking for redemption.
Lewis Hamilton Planning To Challenge Red Bull In The End Of The Current Season
The success in Spain may be a little bit confusing, but raising hopes nevertheless. Recently in an interview, Lewis Hamilton mentioned that the current package they have might not help them match their arch-rivals, but the team is trying to improve on the car. The seven-time champion mentioned, “Hopefully, we will get there at the end of the season. We don’t have the pace yet, but a lot of work is going on back in the factory. Improvements need to keep coming.”
Lewis Hamilton is hopeful because he feels they are going in the right direction. After the poor start they had, it is a good transition to choose and walk on the right track. It is a slow but steady process. Lewis Hamilton is excited about the idea of challenging Red Bull at the fag end of the season. And who knows if it will get as close as the 2021 season. Max has indeed won five already, but there are still more than ten races to go, 15 to be exact. Hence, Mercedes will have to start thinking about the possibility of beating Max Verstappen in the following races.
