The New York Yankees-Baltimore Orioles’ series opener on Tuesday took a wild turn when Aaron Judge and Gleyber Torres were plunked by Orioles pitchers. While Torres survived a scare, the captain was removed from the game and sent to a New York City hospital for CT scans.

Aaron Judge, who has been a key contributor to the New York Yankees offense, walked off the field with significant pain in his right hand. The ball had hit the bottom of his hand and left the area swollen. That being said, manager Aaron Boone had to rush from an important personal event to take stock of Judge’s situation.

The New York Yankees appointed Brad Ausmus as interim skipper for the Baltimore Orioles series opener on Tuesday as Aaron Boone had to attend his son’s graduation ceremony. However, Boone had a mayday call from general manager Brian Cashman as he informed him of Aaron Judge getting hit by a pitch. In a nervous tone, Cashman briefed Boone with all the information he had at the moment, and the manager rushed from the event and drove straight to the Yankee Stadium. The 50-year-old skipper quickly took a sock of the situation and attended a post-game press conference to share injury updates. Boone informed that Aaron Judge was doing fine after getting hit by a 94 mph fastball. They removed him from the game as a precautionary measure.

While the Yankees weren’t aware of Aaron Judge’s situation at the time of exit, timely CT scans have ruled out any damage to bone or ligament. The scans were negative, and hence, Judge is unlikely to miss any time. While Judge expressed his desire to continue playing on Wednesday to Boone, the skipper has yet to take a call. Notably, Judge earlier had a similar situation in 2017 when he got hit by a pitch and broke his wrist. Hence, the Yanks will need to have a clear understanding of the severity of the injury and make an informed decision accordingly. After Judge exited the game, Trent Grisham replaced him as a pinch hitter as Bronx Bombers secured a 4-2 win to take an early lead into the series. However, the victory was overshadowed by the Yankee captain’s injury, as fans are anxious to know his status and the future course of action.

The New York Yankees optioned top prospect Jasson Dominguez to Triple-A last Wednesday after the outfielder cleared his 20-day-long rehab assignment from Tommy John surgery. However, the happiness was short-lived as Jasson was down with another injury in less than a week.

Jasson Dominguez was pulled up from the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre’s game in Rochester on Saturday night with an awkward swing. “He took an awkward checked swing and continued on in the at-bat,” Boone said. After testing, it was revealed that the kid had strained his oblique. He has been subsequently placed on Triple-A injury list with an undefined return timeline.
