It is more than apparent that Max Verstappen is making life difficult for Sergio Perez in the Red Bull camp. He is not making it easier for any driver on the grid, either. But the most pressure is coming Checo’s way. Moreover, it is a little annoying for the F1 fans to see the same name on the top of every race despite how good the RB19 is. Everybody likes to see some contest in every sport. The competition between two or more teams or players is what drags spectators onto the race tracks. But the F1 sport has seen a single driver dominate the grid at certain eras. Since 2010, it has been only Red Bull and Mercedes who won the constructor’s titles.
Even though Ferrari is another powerhouse, they never got to be the constructor’s champion in the last decade or so. Fans hoped to see a competition between Verstappen and Sergio Perez driving the same car. They wanted the Mexicans to do what Nico Rosberg did in 2016. Even Checo started pretty well, winning a couple of times in the beginning. But later, he lost his way. The Red Bull advisor, Helmut Marko, blamed Sergio Perez for his inconsistency. Recently in an interview with Mundo Deportivo, a Spanish outlet, Sergio Perez mentioned, “Not just me, but 90% of the racers would find it difficult to be teammates with Max Verstappen.”
Sergio Perez Claims It Is A Matter Of High Pressure To Be A Teammate Of Max
The Mexican tried to defend his form because he couldn’t get back to winning ways. He has been getting a couple of podiums recently, like in the Austrian and the Hungarian Grand Prix. But he told the Spanish outlet that as a Red Bull driver, he is facing pressure constantly. Moreover, Checo urges that in the last three years, in teams like Mercedes, Ferrari, and Aston Martin, he saw drivers going through rough patches on the tracks. But it was okay for them.
However, in Red Bull, if a driver has a bad race, they might make the left. Moreover, Daniel Ricciardo can still return to take Checo’s place in Red Bull. However, Sergio Perez is not the only one in his claims. Previously drivers like Pierre Gasly and Alex Albon complained about the pressure of being teammates with Max Verstappen too. Even the Aussie Ricciardo chose to leave Red Bull after Max Verstappen came as a rookie into the team.
Current Red Bull’s Strong Dominanance Period With Max Verstappen
Red Bull’s domination began with Sebastian Vettel from 2010 to 2013. Nobody came close to Vettel’s speed in four consecutive years. Later the turbo-hybrid era began in 2014, which saw the rise of a new dominating team and a driver – Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton. Mercedes went on to win the constructor title consecutively from 2014 to 2021. But Lewis Hamilton did not win all those years.
He won six titles from 2014 to 2020, but in 2016, his teammate Nico Rosberg claimed the title. Later, Hamilton went on to win four consecutive titles from 2017 to 2020. In the new cost cap era, the F1 fans are seeing the emergence of a new power but from Red Bull again, as Max Verstappen is the current reigning double-time champion. He won 15 races last year. But he looks like he is ready to surpass his own record this year.
