After addressing outfield needs, the New York Yankees quickly shifted focus towards bolstering pitching depth. The team’s bullpen depth was depleted owing to Juan Soto and Alex Verdugo’s trade. Bedside, the franchise remains in dire need of an ace starter due to an incomplete rotation.

While Yoshinobu Yamamoto’s sweepstakes have reached their final stages, there is still no guarantee that he will land in the Bronx. In a scenario where the pursuit falls apart, the Yankees are expected to stay aggressive in the market to address pitching needs. Meanwhile, MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand recently liked the Bombers to a former CY Young award winner in a blockbuster trade deal.

Yoshinobu Yamamoto is taking his own sweet time to come to his MLB future decision, and the New York Yankees are running out of time. The pitching market is shrinking, and it’s bad news for the desperate Bombers. Thus, amid a lack of free agency options, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com linked Milwaukee Brewers’ ace starter Corbin Burnes to the Yanks in a potential blockbuster trade deal. Burnes is an arbitration-eligible player and won’t enter free agency until 2025. Having said that, Mark explains that any team wanting to trade Burnes would have to pay a steep price, possibly controllable, young arms since the Brewers are not desperate to part with the ace. Nonetheless, he makes a good option for the team who fails to land Yamamoto this off-season.

Corbin Burnes, who secured the prestigious Cy Young Award in 2021, emerged as one of the most dominant pitchers in the league. His exceptional performance with the Milwaukee Brewers showcased a combination of velocity, command, and a diverse pitch arsenal that left hitters struggling to find success against him. One of Burnes’ standout qualities is his versatility on the mound. As a right-handed pitcher, Burnes possesses an impressive fastball and slider combination, complemented by a devastating cutter and an improving changeup. His ability to keep hitters off balance and induce swings and misses makes him a coveted asset for any team with championship aspirations. Thus, if the Yankees manage to strike a deal, it would be a steal.

Meanwhile, the most sought-after free agent besides Shohei Ohtani, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, continues to delay his negotiation proceedings. Despite shortlisting his favorite landing spots, the ace pitcher continues to hear offers from every other MLB team. Currently, he is in New York, meeting with the Mets and the Yankees in a second round of talks. However, there is still no clarity over the pitcher’s final decision.

Rumors have it that Yamamoto could sign by Christmas. Moreover, his contract value could surpass the previously estimated $300 million figure. Right now, analysts predict the final war to conclude between the Yankees, Dodgers, and Mets. However, the Red Sox are equally interested. They also reportedly offered a $300+ million deal to Yamamoto. Ultimately, the ball is in Yamamoto’s court as he continues to play the frustrating chasing game.
