The New York Yankees couldn’t have hopes for a better start to the 2024 MLB season as they claim second place in Al-East with a 24-13 record. Most importantly, the team struck the right chord with offense, which remained its biggest drawback and weakness a year ago.
However, with the important addition of Juan Soto, the New York Yankees regained life again. That being said, with the 2024 season approaching it’s All-Star break, the Yanks are being linked to a offensive upgrade from Arizona Diamondbacks who could potentially fill in for the veteran in the latter half of the season.
Yankees Floated Landing Spot For Christian Walker
The New York Yankees have a defendable first baseman in veteran Anthony Rizzo, who recently broke out after an early season slump. However, the season is still long, and in the latter half, the chances of hitters wearing out are very high. Hence, perhaps the front office can jump in to secure a key slugger as backup reinforcement. Interestingly, Ryan Garcia of Empire Sports Media listed Arizona Diamondbacks’ hot slugger Christian Walker as an ideal trade candidate. Walker has played first base all his life and registered his career-best season in 2023. He slashed .258/.333/.497 with 33 home runs and 103 RBIs and is slashing .280/.391/.490 currently with the Dbacks. Not only that, Walker is a two-time Gold Glove winner, which makes him a perfect defensive candidate.
Christian Walker is currently secured by Arizona Diamondbacks on a one-year, $10.9 million contract. A low-risk trade could also be beneficial for the New York Yankees in securing the latter half of the season. Overall, as the mid-season trade deadline draws nearer, all eyes will be on the Yankees front office to see if they pull the trigger on a deal for Christian Walker. Whether or not the rumors come to fruition, one thing is certain: the possibility of adding a talented hitter like Walker to their lineup has Yankee fans buzzing with anticipation and excitement for the remainder of the season. The offense, which has been rock solid this year, could gain firepower in Walker further. And the Yanks’ hitting lineup could become one of the most destructive in the whole of MLB. The deadline will close on August 1, and hence, Bombers’ front office has time to figure things out.
Anthony Rizzo Explodes In Yanks Series Sweep Over Astros
The New York Yankees recent home series against Detroit Tigers was full of surprises as captain Aaron Judge got ejected for the first time in his career. However, his best pal Anthony Rizzo covered for him with a three-run bomb to outclass the Tigers and also help Yanks register it’s first home series sweep of the season.
Besides Anthony Rizzo, Juan Soto delivered a clutch base-clearing double to extend the Yankees lead to 5-2 in a rain-hit series finale, which was called after the eighth inning due to adverse weather conditions. Even Aaron Judge, who got ejected a day before, slammed a home run in the finale to redeem himself.
