The New York Yankees aren’t done trying to upgrade roster ahead of the mid-season trade deadline that expires on August 1. With Jazz Chisholm Jr’s addition this past weekend, the team resolved its third base issues to an extent. However, Jazz, who played CF for past two season, is yet to prove himself at infield.

Meanwhile, pitching depth still remains an area of concern for the New York Yankees as they embark on a final postseason push. While the bullpen is shaky, the starting rotation has been equally inconsistent. Amid this, the Bronx Bombers have apparently intensified negotiations with the Detroit Tigers over their ace starting pitcher.

Yankees To Pursue Jack Flaherty In Exchange For Nestor Cortes!

The New York Yankees have struggled massively with their starting rotation this season, facing significant setbacks due to underwhelming outings from pitchers like Nestor Cortes and Luis Gil. While Gerrit Cole made a late debut to the season due to an elbow injury, the ace has been shaky since his return. Moreover, Clarke Schmidt landed on IL with a lat strain last month, further depleting the team’s depth. That being said, to address pressing needs in rotation, the Yankee front office apparently initiated negotiations with the Detroit Tigers to acquire right-hander Jack Flaherty. The starter owns a 2.95 ERA in 18 starts with 133 strikeouts. Moreover, Jack’s strong fastball, effective slider, and competitive edge make him a viable X-factor for the Yanks.

Meanwhile, MLB insider Bob Nightengale recently reported that the New York Yankees’ trade talks with the Tigers over Jack Flaherty’s availability have intensified. And interestingly, the Bronx Bombers might move starter Nestor Cortes in exchange for Flaherty. Notably, Cortes has been a key rotation piece for Yanks since his return to the organization in 2021. However, this season has been subpar, to say the least. The Cuban pitcher owns a 4.13 ERA in 22 starts with an abysmal 4-9 record. Having said that, for the Yankees, this trade represents a calculated risk. Flaherty’s addition could provide the rotation stability necessary for a deep playoff run, while Cortes’ departure might be mitigated by Flaherty’s potential impact. Regardless, to keep the postseason aspirations alive in a competitive AL-East division, the trade is definitely worth the risk for the second-placed Bronx Bombers.

In a candid take, New York Yankees captain Aaron Judge urged the front office to make moves before the trade deadline expires on August 1 as other teams have already upgraded their rosters with significant trades. Meanwhile, so far, the Yanks traded Jazz Chisholm Jr from Miami Marlins in a blockbuster trade.

Interestingly, Chisholm left an immediate impact with a multi-home run outing in his second game for the New York Yankees. However, the Yanks need help in the pitching department, and it’s about time the team finalizes a target as options are shrinking on the market, especially after the playoff race for immensely competitive.
