This season, infielders have let down New York Yankees big time. Anthony Rizzo got injured after a concerning slump, whereas Gleyber Torres’ form has been non-existent since the start of the year. Additionally, DJ LeMahieu, the veteran third baseman, is struggling to find footing after a delayed debut.

Hence, sooner or later, the New York Yankees will be required to upgrade their infield depth. And the upcoming August 1 trade deadline is the best and last opportunity for them to make moves. Amid this, Rucker Haringey of FanSided proposed an innovative trade deal that could bring a San Francisco Giants’ infielder to the Bronx.

With the MLB trade deadline on the horizon, Rucker Haringey of FanSided urged the New York Yankees to explore a trade with the San Francisco Giants to bolster the infield depth. Third baseman Matt Chapman has been viewed as an ideal infield reinforcement candidate for the Yanks. Haringey added that the Bombers could ship Yoendrys Gomez and Zach Messinger in exchange for Chapman, which could be a fair and cheap deal. Notably, Chapman is widely regarded as one of the best defensive third basemen in the league. His three Gold Glove awards are a testament to his exceptional fielding abilities. Additionally, this season, Matt Chapman had his moments of ups and downs. He started the season with a .222/.266/.385 slash line. However, since the past month, Matt Chapman’s slash line improved to .253/.349/.484.

Regardless, adding Chapman would immediately upgrade the New York Yankees’ infield defence, providing stability and reducing the number of defensive miscues that have plagued the team this season. While his batting average has fluctuated, Chapman’s ability to draw walks and maintain a respectable on-base percentage makes him a dual threat offensively. Also, the Bronx Bombers have faced inconsistency at third base, with DJ LeMahieu’s struggles seeing no bounds. Chapman’s arrival would solidify this position and provide a reliable everyday player. Most importantly, his addition would not only address immediate needs but also provide long-term stability. Overall, while the trade dynamics are complex and involve significant considerations, acquiring Chapman could be a game-changing decision that positions the Yankees for immediate and long-term success.

DJ LeMahieu Fails As Leadoff Hitter Vs Orioles

In a last bid to induce DJ LeMahieu’s resurgence, the New York Yankees promoted him to the leadoff slot in the series opener against the Baltimore Orioles. For the past couple of seasons, DJ has been Yanks’ consistent and regular leadoff hitter. However, LeMahieu failed to grab the opportunity and went hitless in five at-bats in the Yank’s 4-1 win over the Orioles on Friday.

DJ LeMahieu hasn’t hit a home run since making season debut in May. He has had a total of three extra-base hits in over 130 plate appearances. Needless to say, the veteran third baseman is becoming a major liability, and the Yankees are already being pressured to deliver a change. Notably, Jorbit Vivas has been recalled for the Orioles series, and he could make his debut soon if DJ’s woes don’t end.
