Carlos Rodon, on a quest for a rebound season with the New York Yankees, took the mound for his second time this spring season. After an ordinary outing in his spring debut, Rodon showed signs of life against the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday, enduring over five innings on the mound.
Notably, Carlos Rodon remains under pressure to register a breakout season this year after a horrendous debut in the pinstripes last year. While Rodon was having a blast on the mound, he was pulled up mid-way through his sixth inning by an unusual face that completely took the pitcher by surprise.
Carlos Rodon Stunned To See Joe Torre Walk Out Of The Pen During His Start
New York Yankees starting pitcher Carlos Rodon had an absolute fan moment on the mound during his recent spring start against the Philadelphia Phillies. Rodon was having a terrific day as he threw 72 pitches in 5.2 innings. The pitcher was gearing up to face left-handers to end his start on a high when he saw legendary former Yankee manager Joe Torre walk out of the bullpen to take the ball away from him. Rodon was initially pissed as he wanted to pitch a final inning. But when he saw Torre take the walk, he handed over the ball to him gracefully. “I was like, ‘All right, I can’t really say much here. It was funny. It was cool,” said Rodon.
Joe Torre, who had been at the New York Yankees camp for a few days, was encouraged by Aaron Boone to take the walk and relive the old days. Notably, Torre managed the Yanks from 1996-2007. The Hall of Famer was also a five-time World champion during his playing days and is widely regarded as one of the greats of the game. “What a treat to have him here the last few days. Our guys loved it. I think Joe really loved it,” said Boone. Undoubtedly, the heartwarming moment caught the fans’ attention, and the players’ respect for Torre was a beautiful sight to behold. These moments of camaraderie and sportsmanship are what keep the sports sacred. And to top it off, the Bronx Bombers ended up with a 4-3 win vs the Phillies after a spiteful losing streak.
Carlos Rodon Denied Opening Day Offer By Yankees!
After ace Gerrit Cole got diagnosed with elbow nerve inflammation, the New York Yankees quest for a opening day starter replacement ended with Nestor Cortes. While Carlos Rodon was in line, skipper Aaron Boone slated him for the second game of the opening series against Houston Astros.
Of course, the New York Yankees’ decision to leave out Carlos Rodon surprised the fans. However, perhaps the set schedule prevented Aaron Boone from jumping the gun. Rodon is an injury-prone pitcher. And thus, the team management chose to avoid taking risks. Regardless, Rodon has a start for the second game, and he will look to start on a high this year.
