Rodon For Game 1, Cole To Follow; Yankees Confirm Rotation Lineup For ALCS

Cleveland Guardians beat Detroit Tigers in AL Division Series to set up a AL Championship series clash with the New York Yankees. The high-stake and high-pressure 7-game series will begin from Monday and manager Aaron Boone has finalised his roster picks for the the same.

First baseman Anthony Rizzo and left-hander Nestor Cortes are struggling with injuries. But the doors to ALCS are still open for them despite bleak odds of recovery. On the other hand, skipper Aaron Boone is set to bring changes to the starting rotation schedule and confirmed four starters for the 7-game series.

Left-hander Carlos Rodon is set to make the biggest start of his New York Yankees tenure in Game 1 of the American League Championship Series (ALCS) against the Cleveland Guardians on Monday night. Manager Aaron Boone confirmed the decision, noting that Gerrit Cole, who pitched Game 4 of the ALDS against the Royals, will start Game 2 on regular rest. Clarke Schmidt will pitch in Game 3, followed by Luis Gil in Game 4. Notably, Rodon’s selection comes despite his struggles in the ALDS, where he allowed four runs on seven hits in just 3.2 innings during the Yanks’ 4-2 loss to the Kansas City Royals in Game 2. Before that, he had been solid in the second half of the season, posting a 2.91 ERA with 83 strikeouts over 68 innings in 12 starts.

It’s also important to note that Yankees skipper Aaron Boone weighed Carlos Rodon against Clarke Schmidt at the start of Game 1. Schmidt, who had pitched well in Game 3 of the ALDS, allowing only two runs in 4+ innings, was another strong contender but ultimately didn’t get the nod. Meanwhile, Rodon will face a tough Cleveland lineup that has shown an ability to hit left-handed pitchers well. The Guardians had a .751 OPS against lefties, which outperformed their numbers against right-handed pitching this season. Regardless, Rodon is determined to make an impact. “Gerrit’s a good poker player. Me, not so much. I need to be better at poker,” Rodon said. That being said, the highly anticipated Game 1 of the ALCS will be played at Yankee Stadium on Monday night, setting the stage for a crucial opener in the best-of-seven series.

Anthony Rizzo’s ALCS Return Not Yet Ruled Out

The status of New York Yankees first baseman Anthony Rizzo remains uncertain ahead of the ALCS, with manager Aaron Boone stating on Sunday that “there’s a chance” Rizzo will make the roster. Rizzo has been sidelined with two fractured fingers on his right hand, sustained after a hit-by-pitch just before the regular season ended.

Although Anthony Rizzo attempted to test his recovery prior to the ALDS, he was ultimately left off the roster as he wasn’t ready to play. The 35-year-old veteran has been undergoing treatment, but his ability to contribute hinges on whether he can grip a bat and squeeze a glove comfortably, essential skills for his role as the Yankees aim for their first AL pennant since 2009.
