The team has revisited and aligned with successful strategies from their earlier years, leading to significant breakthroughs in performance. They have successfully implemented these advancements into their cars, resulting in tangible improvements in lap times. This success contrasts the challenges and underperformance they experienced over the past two years, highlighting a return to form driven by refined development efforts and strategic adjustments.

Moreover, it wasn’t just one component or change that suddenly made the car fast. James Allison and his team made a collective effort to implement consistent upgrades for better balance. Further, Wolff explains that the front wings were essential to them, but it wasn’t a miracle. This implies that the technical team did more work than was visible on the surface. Thus, the vanity panel or the nose, which went unnoticed, might have been the missing piece. According to the engineers, the new vanity panel has a bulge for cooling. However, it helps the car in several other ways, as it avoids the messy flow condition. 

Further, the vanity panel was not mentioned in the presentation document in Austrian GP. Thus, the change was not solely from the aerodynamic perspective. However, the team used this chassis even in the cold conditions of Silverstone, where excess cooling is not necessary. This indicates it is more than just a coolant.

The components in the vanity panel point towards a revised damper layout, which requires more space. Thus, it is critical to provide a solid base and stability to the aero platform. This resolves the longstanding balancing issue that has plagued the Brackley-based squad.

Moreover, modification to the heave element would further improve the aerodynamic aspect. Subsequently, the W15 is inculcating more downforce as it is responsive in almost every corner. Therefore, this could mark the beginning of a new era for Mercedes, as they have finally overcome a significant longstanding hurdle.
