The New York Yankees, sitting second in AL-East with 60-44 record, are in dire need of multiple roster plugs. However, not all gaps could be filled at the upcoming trade deadline due to shrinking of options pool. Still, the front office can definitely materialize a couple of pieces before August 1.

Meanwhile, the New York Yankees infield depth has been in shambles lately. And hence, the front office had set eyes on the Cincinnati Reds’ hot second baseman. However, amid serious interest, the Reds have reportedly tightened the leash to fetch a considerable price, which will essentially put the Yanks in a tricky spot heading into the trade deadline.

The New York Yankees faced severe production issues from infielders, especially second baseman Gleyber Torres and third baseman DJ LeMahieu. And with none of them showing signs of improvement, the Yanks apparently approached Cincinnati Reds to enquire about second baseman Jonathan India’s availability. India is hitting .271 with eight homers, 40 RBIs, 50 runs, nine stolen bases, and a .789 OPS with the Reds this year and is a versatile infielder with a strong defensive hand. Moreover, for the Yanks, Jonathan could be a potential leadoff hitter. Hence, the front office was expected to pursue him aggressively at the upcoming trade deadline. However, the quest is likely to get challenging after the emergence of multiple suitors.

As per Jon Morosi of MLB Network, Cincinnati Reds are increasing Jonathan India’s trade value after the New York Yankees and Seattle Mariners expressed strong suitors. With the Reds sitting fourth in NL-West with a 49-3 record, they are expected to be sellers at the deadline. Still, the Reds want to play their cards right and fetch a high exchange value for India if a trade were to materialize. It goes without saying that, given the heightened interest, the Yanks would need to offer a compelling trade package to secure India. This could involve parting with some of their top prospects. Players like Everson Pereira, a highly-touted outfield prospect, and Brock Selvidge, a promising pitcher, could be included in the deal. In addition, the team might also consider adding a current roster player to sweeten the offer. While the increased competition for India’s services makes the pursuit more challenging, the potential payoff for the Yanks is significant.

Yanks Linked To Cubs Starter James Taillon

With the starting rotation depth in shambles, the New York Yankees are reportedly interested in trading Chicago Cubs starter James Taillon at the upcoming trade deadline. Taillon is pitching a 7-5 record and a 2.96 ERA in 17 starts this year, and he pitched for the Yanks back between 2021-22.

He went 22-11 with a 4.10 ERA, including a 14-5 record and a 3.91 ERA campaign in 2022. Hence, if a trade materializes, the New York Yankees rotation will earn a massive boost. Overall, it all boils down to how much risk the Yanks are willing to take. Any trade will involve the sacrifice of several prospects, which could put the team’s future in jeopardy.
