The New York Yankees have been struggling with more injury issues in the last few weeks. They had a much better start to the ongoing season with the roster looked more or less healthy. However, in the previous few weeks, key players, including Anthony Rizzo, Gleyber Torres, and Giancarlo Stanton, have entered the Injured List. As a result, the offence has weakened a little bit for the NY side. Moreover, Sunday’s game against the Atlanta Braves was a perfect display of the problems that the team is about to face. Nestor Cortes had a pretty good day on the mound.

The bullpen complemented the starter pretty well. However, it was the offence that let the pitchers down. All their hard work went in vain. The Braves won Game 3 against the home side 3-1. Eventually, the Yankees lost the third consecutive series. Hence, they had been in their worst phase of the season so far. Now, the fans might wonder how they will deal with these new injury issues. Lately, the Yankees added JD Davis to their roster to bolster the infield depth.

Recently, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com mentioned that the Bronx Bombers added an experienced corner fielder last Sunday. They acquired JD Davis from the Oakland Athletics with cash considerations, and in return, they traded infielder Jordan Groshans. This season, the 31-year-old infielder was batting .236 with four homers and five RBIs over 39 games for the Athletics. He went 29 for 123. Moreover, Davis appeared defensively at first base and third base. On June 18, the Athletics designated JD Davis for assignment. Lately, the Bronx Bombers have been looking for help at the corners of the infield. In Boston, Anthony Rizzo, the first baseman, fractured his right arm on a Sunday.

This injury prompted the NY side to call Ben Rice for making his MLB debut. According to the MLB Pipeline, the rookie catcher/ first baseman is the number 12 prospect of the Yankees. He is 25 years old. Through Sunday’s game, Ben Rice in 17 at-bats had five hits. He has been hitting .294. Moreover, the Bronx Bombers have been going back and forth with DJ LeMahieu and Oswaldo Cabrera at third base. On Tuesday, the Yankees will play against their city rivals, the New York Mets. For this Subway Series, Aaron Boone might use JD Davis. Then, it will mean a return for the 31 year old infielder to Citi Field. From 2019 to 2022, he has represented the Mets.

The Yankees manager mentioned that he might use Ben Rice and JD Davis back and forth at first base. J.D. can be the right handed hitting half that Aaron Boone was looking for. Moreover, the skipper noted that the 31 year old infielder has displayed solid stats against the lefties. He has a career OPS of .779. This week, the city rivals might use the LHPs, David Peterson and Sean Manaea.

According to Hoch of MLB.com, Boone mentioned that Davis can come and give them a little spark. Moreover, he said, “Especially, if I can get him against LHPs in there.” The manager pointed out that the team is down with a couple of injuries. Now, they will need JD Davis to be the little shot in the arm and piece to help them win some games.
