This season, the 31-year-old infielder was batting .236 with four homers and five RBIs over 39 games for the Athletics. He went 29 for 123. Moreover, Davis appeared defensively at first base and third base. On June 18, the Athletics designated JD Davis for assignment. Lately, the Bronx Bombers have been looking for help at the corners of the infield. In Boston, Anthony Rizzo, the first baseman, fractured his right arm on a Sunday.
This injury prompted the NY side to call Ben Rice for making his MLB debut. According to the MLB Pipeline, the rookie catcher/ first baseman is the number 12 prospect of the Yankees. He is 25 years old. Through Sunday’s game, Ben Rice in 17 at-bats had five hits. He has been hitting .294. Moreover, the Bronx Bombers have been going back and forth with DJ LeMahieu and Oswaldo Cabrera at third base. On Tuesday, the Yankees will play against their city rivals, the New York Mets. For this Subway Series, Aaron Boone might use JD Davis. Then, it will mean a return for the 31 year old infielder to Citi Field. From 2019 to 2022, he has represented the Mets.
