The New York Yankees had trouble generating offense from the infield as DJ LeMahieu, Gleyber Torres, and Anthony Rizzo struggled extensively this year. While Rizzo landed on IL with an arm fracture, LeMahieu and Torres continued to showcase decline, thus forcing the front office to enforce a trade ahead of the August 1 deadline.
On Saturday, the New York Yankees announced a blockbuster trade involving Miami Marlins versatile outfielder/ infielder Jazz Chisholm Jr. While the Yanks envision him to resolve infield woes effective immediately, Gleyber Torres is seemingly defiant to give up his place on the lineup, thus adding to manager Aaron Boone’s dilemma.
Jazz Chisholm To Train For Third Base After Torres Refuses To Move
Jazz Chisholm Jr, the versatile infielder/outfielder, is officially a Yankee. During the early hours of Saturday, the New York Yankees finalized a trade that sent Jazz to the Bronx in exchange for three minor-league prospects. Meanwhile, Chisholm joined the roster on Sunday, replacing J.D Davis, who had been designated for an assignment to make space for the new addition. He played center field on his thrilling debut, with Aaron Boone hinting at lineup changes in the coming week. Interestingly, Jazz Chisholm earlier got All-Star recognition as a second baseman back in 2022. It was only until last year that he experimented at center field. However, third base is an area Jazz has rarely explored in his extensive major league career.
Hence, many analysts predicted that the New York Yankees would move Jazz Chisholm Jr to second base and, accordingly, Gleyber Torres to third base. However, Torres is apparently defiant about giving up his space. “I’m a second baseman. I play second,” said Torres when quizzed about dynamic changes post Jazz’s arrival. On the other hand, Chisholm Jr. has no issues learning to play at third base as he wants to help the team win in any capacity possible. The slugger said when he moved to center field last year, the initial phase was challenging. However, he eventually got used to it, and hence, third base is another area he can master if the Yankees require him to do so. “I just feel like I could go and play anywhere and help my team win,” Chisholm Jr said. Notably, Aaron Boone is also mulling to promote the newest addition to the leadoff spot in the coming week.
Aaron Boone Confirms Jazz Chisholm’s Future At Third Base!
Meanwhile, following Jazz Chisholm Jr’s Yankees debut on Sunday, skipper Aaron Boone insists that the slugger will play at third base effective immediately. While Jazz has no experience playing in that part of the field, Boone is confident of the skills the versatile player possesses to excel in any position in the field.
Overall, Aaron Boone firmly believes that the New York Yankees are already a better team after Jazz Chisholm’s addition and they look forward to extract the slugger’s full potential. Notably, after a series victory over division rivals Boston Red Sox, the Yanks will jet off to Philadelphia to face Phillies in a three-game series.
