The New York Yankees started hot this 2024 MLB season. They trashed arch postseason rivals Houston Astros 3-0 in the three-game opening series. Oswaldo Cabrera, Juan Soto, Gleyber Torres amongst many other rose to the occasion to ensure a perfect start for Bombers.

Notably, Oswaldo Cabrera was a last-moment addition to the lineup as veteran infielder DJ LeMahieu failed to recover in time from his foot injury. While his niggle was earlier anticipated to be less serious, the latest MRI scans have the New York Yankees worst fears come true. Aaron Boone is accordingly planning for a prolonged absence ahead.

After Gerrit Cole, the New York Yankees lost a key anchor of the lineup in spring training. Veteran infielder DJ LeMahieu got hit on the foot with a foul ball and was never seen on the field thereafter. Then, manager Aaron Boone informed the media that LeMahieu’s X-ray scans were good and that they were waiting for the soreness to reduce. Later, the club placed the third baseman on a 10-day injury list and promoted utility man Oswaldo Cabrera from the bench to third base. That being said, things took a serious turn when DJ LeMahieu failed to recover on time. He was then sent for imaging and MRI scans as the medical team was unable to figure out the root cause of the issue.

Meanwhile, ahead of the New York Yankees series finale against the Houston Astros, manager Aaron Boone confirmed DJ LeMahieu is suffering from a non-displaced fracture on their right foot. The medical staff failed to catch it before due to swelling. However, the latest MRI scans issued clarity. Moreover, Boone remains uncertain about the return timeline. He added how LeMahieu is expected to undergo additional imaging scans to track his healing progress. Not only that, the skipper admitted DJ LeMahieu will only return when he feels a 100% fit and won’t be rushed to play through the discomfort. The right foot has been his Achilles heel for the longest time, and therefore, the club intends to exercise caution. Until then, Oswaldo Cabrera is likely to take control over third base. And with the kind of form he is in, Cabrera is slowly becoming irreplaceable.

Anthony Volpe Scratched Off Yankees Lineup With Stomach Ache!

On day 3 of the MLB 2024 season, the New York Yankees stepped out to sweep the Houston Astro without star shortstop Anthony Volpe. He was scratched off the lineup at the last minute after the infielder complained of a stomach bug in the morning. “He’s pretty ill. It’s been a rough day,” said Boone on Volpe’s condition.

As far as return is concerned, the New York Yankees aren’t sure when Anthony Volpe will feel great to be able to hit the ball. In his absence on Saturday, the team’s newest recruit, Jon Berti, got his debut game. He played at third base while red-hot Oswaldo Cabrera was moved to shortstop. Berti started off in style with an RBI single in the second inning to lead the Yanks 1-0.
