The New York Yankees have been playing without their ace pitcher, Gerrit Cole, so far this season. Cole is out with a nerve inflammation in his right elbow. He suffered that injury very late in the spring training. Later, the team doctors said he wouldn’t be able to return to the major league for one to two months. That was a big blow to the Bronx Bombers. After all, losing the ace pitcher right before the opening day of the regular season is tough for any team. But what happened last year made it even more impactful.

Last year, the Yankees had a season they would not want to remember. But Gerrit Cole had his career-best season in 2023. As a result, he won the American League Cy Young Award. He was the best performer for the Pinstripes last season. But then the NY side has been looking for redemption in 2024. That’s when Cole got injured, and it scared everybody. The fans had doubts over the shaky starting pitching lineup. But so far, the Bronx Bombers have done well, including the starting pitchers. Moreover, the latest update on Cole should make the Yankees Faithful even happier.

Recently, the NY side has received a positive update on the injury of the superstar pitcher. Gerrit Cole has not yet played a single game in the ongoing season. After his nerve inflammation in his right elbow during the spring training, it did not take much time for the team to place him on the Injured List. He has been on the 60-day IL since then and is working gradually on his recovery. According to the latest announcement by the Yankees, on Tuesday, Gerrit Cole will face live batters. It will be after a long time, the reigning AL Cy Young winner will pitch to live hitters. But there has not been a timeline yet for the Yankees ace. Moreover, the Bronx Bombers might soon send Cole on a rehab assignment.

But most importantly, he must not suffer any more injuries or setbacks. However, in the current season, the NY side’s pitchers have done a decent job. Hence, the impending return of the Yankees superstar pitcher makes things even more exciting. There is still no certainty as to when the Bronx Bombers will activate Cole from the IL. But whenever the reigning AL Cy Young winner gets ready to return to the starting pitching rotation, it will be a nice push the team has been looking for. The Yankees are pushing for their first World Series victory since 2009.
