Draymond Green did not have a great season for the Golden State Warriors this time. He really messed up in the 2023-2024 edition big time. Most notably, the two back-to-back suspensions very early in the season caused a lot of problems for the GSW. Clearly, the absence of Green was bad for the team as they went through a losing streak. They lacked strength in their defense. Moreover, Klay Thompson was not at his best either. Without Klay and Dray performing at their best, Stephen Curry felt a lot of pressure to carry the team to the postseason.

Even when Dray came back, things did not get a whole lot better. The Warriors had to deal with some of their players struggling with inconsistency. Moreover, Klay Thompson disappointed the fans in the most important game for the team. He scored zero points in the play-in game against the Sacramento Kings. Eventually, the Kings knocked the Warriors out. Since then, the GSW has been planning to make significant changes. Recently, there have been rumors that the Dubs plan to sign the former Los Angeles Lakers coach Darvin Ham.

Earlier this week, some rumors came along saying that the Warriors are looking to sign Darvin Ham as their new assistant coach. First of all, it makes sense that if Kenny Atkinson leaves the Dubs, then they would look for someone to replace him. Recently, in an interview with Jovan Buha of The Athletic on “Buha’s Block,” Lakers insider Anthony Irwin pointed at Draymond Green as a possible reason behind the Warriors’ interest in Ham. According to Irwin, what the Dubs are looking at this point is the fact that Ham and Green are from the same neighborhood. Moreover, Dray Green clearly has issues “Flying off the handle.” Hence, Irwin feels Darvin Ham can be a great assistant coach to Steve Kerr in order to handle Green. Ham is a big guy and so is Green.

Moreover, Irwin feels Kerr can ask Ham to just tell Draymond Green not to do “Draymond stuff.” Most importantly, Ham might come in handy to see that Green does not get suspended that often. That’s why Anthony Irwin thinks, “Darvin might be great with the Warriors.” The Los Angeles Lakers fired Darvin Ham after spending a couple of seasons with them. He helped the LA side make two postseasons back to back. Prior to his job as the head coach of the Lakers, he had been an assistant coach to several teams, including the Denver Nuggets, Detroit Pistons, and so on.

Dubs Have A Lot Of Work To Do In The Offseason

The kind of season the GSW had this time sparks a lot of question regarding their roster. They have a lot of issues with their payroll as well. Moreover, Klay Thompson will be an unrestricted free agent in the offseason. The Dubs need to have a certain idea if they really want to extend Klay’s contract. There is a good chance the Big 3 of the Golden State has played their last season together. Perhaps the Dynasty is over.

Besides Thompson’s free agency issue, there is Chris Paul’s deal that is non-guaranteed at $30 million. Perhaps the Warriors would like to move on from the seasoned guard. Then, there is no update on Ham signing with the Dubs as an assistant coach. Darvin Ham can help the defense of the GSW get stronger. He can bring out another level of Green defensively.
