Toto Wolff- Lewis Hamilton

Lewis Hamilton redeemed himself to take away his ninth career victory at Silverstone and end his two-and-a-half-year-long win drought at his home weekend. It turned out to be the perfect fairy tale ending for Lewis at his final home race in Britain in the black suit.

For Mercedes, Lewis Hamilton’s victory was their second in a row after George Russell won in Austria in the aftermath of Lando Norris and Max Verstappen’s eventful crash. Hence, encouraged by the positive results, Toto Wolff has confirmed more upgrades in the backdrop of robust development back in the Brackley factory.

Mercedes have once again emerged as a winning contender courtesy of back-to-back victories in Austria and Silverstone. They now have what it takes to win, which is a stable and high-performing machinery. The constant upgrades back at the Brackley factory bore positive results, especially the controversial front wing upgrade. That package essentially changed the trajectory of the team back to winning ways. Meanwhile, encouraged by Lewis Hamilton’s historic victory at Silverstone, team principal Toto Wolff has promised to bring two more upgrades before the season heads into summer break. Hungary and Belgian GP are the next two races on the calendar before a long four-week break, and Wolff expects two separate packages on both weekends.

“We justified that what we do is right at the moment,” Toto Wolff said in an interview. Not only that, Wolff suggested that Mercedes’ development won’t stop in the second half of the season at all. The factory will keep churning out as many upgrades as they can irrespective of the significance. He added that things finally began to make sense after a correlation was established between simulation and on-track data. “We are finding performance, we’re putting it on the car, and it translates into lap time,” Wolff added. Reflecting on the Silverstone race, the Austrian team boss revealed that Lewis Hamilton’s tyre degradation was less compared to McLaren’s. And hence, Lewis was able to fend off Lando Norris despite the latter having newer softs compared to the Briton. Overall, Mercedes executed every aspect of the weekend to the point in the British Grand Prix and saw the desired results.

After 945 days, Lewis Hamilton finally emerged as a race winner, and the iconic moment came true at his home race, i.e., the British Grand Prix. The Mercedes star started the race from P2, and in an eventful race interrupted by rain, Hamilton gained an edge over Norris and Verstappen due to his Mercedes’ excellent strategy calls.

That being said, the seven-time world champion, Lewis Hamilton, extended his record streak of most wins in F1 by any driver to 104 victories in total. He is also the first F1 driver in history to win a race in 16 different seasons and beat legend Michael Schumacher to become the first one to win nine races at the same circuit, i.e the Silverstone track.
