Steve Kerr coached the Golden State Warriors, which had big names like Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson, and they won four NBA championships. Everything still remains the same for the Dubs’ core group, except “Game 6 Klay” is not there anymore. Kerr will try to manage the Dubs to get ready to win more titles in the following seasons. However, he will have to do that with the veteran shooting guard gone after a 13-year stint with the franchise. As Klay was a free agent in the offseason, the Warriors used him as a part of the sign-and-trade deal with the Dallas Mavericks. Subsequently, Thompson signed a three-year contract with the Mavs worth $50 million.
Since the Dallas side was last season’s runners-up, the veteran sharpshooter might feel it is the right move as he wants to win more titles. On the other hand, things seem to get worse for the GSW. Last season, they could not make the playoffs, as they lost to the Sacramento Kings during the play-in tournament. To get back to title contention, the Dubs will need to make big changes. Lately, Steve Kerr mentioned that everyone in the squad except Stephen Curry can be part of offseason trade negotiations.
Dubs Coach Says The Team Won’t Trade Stephen Curry
Clearly, the Warriors are ready to make big changes in the offseason. They have proved their intentions after trading Klay Thompson to the Dallas Mavericks. It was a big decision to let a franchise icon go to another Western Conference team. For most of the fans in the Bay Area, it was nothing short of a huge heartbreak to see the end of the trio – Stephen Curry, Draymond Green and Klay Thompson. Recently, in an interview with The Willard & Dibs Show, Team USA coach Steve Kerr mentioned that very few players in the league are not part of trade discussions. Stephen Curry is one of the players about whom the Warriors never talk in trade discussions. Everybody else in the Dubs roster can be eligible for trade deals.

Moreover, Steve Kerr added that it is a very common way other NBA teams operate as well. Then, the Warriors coach pointed at the Los Angeles Lakers as they do the same thing with LeBron James. Kerr noted, “LBJ might be the only other player who is not talked about in trade discussions.” The Dubs coach thinks it is fair because every team badly wants to improve in the offseason. Stephen Curry had a great 2023-2024 season as he also won the Clutch Player of the Year award and averaged 26.4 points per game. However, it is his supporting cast that the Warriors need to improve this offseason.
Next Season, The Warriors Are Getting New Help For Their Talisman
Initially, the Golden State Warriors were very close to land Paul George. He could have been a perfect one-two punch on offence alongside Steph Curry for Kerr’s side. If they had landed him, the GSW would become a favorite for the upcoming season very early in the offseason. However, the LA Clippers refused to cooperate with the Dubs. Hence, the seven-time champions had to look for other options. Eventually, they landed Buddy Hield, Kyle Anderson, and so on in the same six-team deal that saw Thompson move to the Mavs. Steve Kerr might use Hield as a possible replacement for Thompson.

On the other hand, Anderson can help increasing the team’s versatility. Moreover, it can help Steve Kerr use different combinations as well. Moroever, the Dubs are in luck as they signed in De’Anthony Melton. He can get one of the “Two-guard spot” alongside Curry. Finally, the gist is whatever the roster looks like, Steph Curry will be at the center of it. Everyone else have to learn to play around the two-time MVP.
