With a blazing start to the 2024 MLB season, the New York Yankees remain confident about their playoff chances. However, as the season progresses, the team will be required to make some roster changes depending on composition needs and injury reinforcements.

That being said, the New York Yankees’ 40-man roster and minor league farm system are packed. With the trade deadline coming to a close in a couple of months, ESPN analyst David Schoenfield listed a couple of overhyped prospects in the Bombers’ farm system who are most likely to be traded this year.

Will Yankees Trade Everson Pereira, Chase Hampton At Trade Deadline?

The New York Yankees have long been known for their deep and talented farm system, consistently churning out top prospects who generate excitement and anticipation among fans and analysts alike. However, with a surplus of promising young players in their organization, rumors have begun to swirl, suggesting that the Yanks may be looking to clear out some of their logjams in order to address more immediate needs at the major league level. ESPN’s David Schoenfield made a list of Way-Early Trade Deadline Extravaganza Preview and listed a couple of overhyped prospects as Yanks’ probable trade chips. Firstly, David mentioned outfield prospect Everson Pereira. He hit 151 while going homerless in 93 at-bats last year in the majors and failed to translate his minor league hot form in the majors.

Since then, Everson Pereira has been instructed to grind with Triple-A. However, since the Yankees outfield depth is overflowing following the addition of Juan Soto and Trent Grisham, Pereira is unlikely to make a cut to the majors anytime soon. And for the right offer, the Bronx Bombers are most likely to trade Pereira at the August 1 deadline. Besides, David Schoenfield also mentioned that the top pitching prospect, Chase Hampton, is a likable trade chip. Hampton made waves in minor leagues last year. But is yet to receive a due in the majors. He is still struggling to make it to Triple-A, and the Bombers will run out of patience sooner rather than later. Of course, any trade involving top prospects would need to be carefully considered. However, if the right opportunity presents itself, the Yanks may be willing to pull the trigger.

Gerrit Cole Takes Another Step In Right Direction Towards Recovery

New York Yankees ace Gerrit Cole threw from 75 feet on Tuesday in what is believed to be a big step in his recovery process. Cole, down with a nerve elbow inflammation injury, resumed throwing activities just last week. So far, he has had no setbacks whatsoever as Yanks move with extra caution.

Moreover, as far as a return timeline is concerned, Gerrit Cole isn’t eligible for reinstatement until May last week. And with the current timeline, he should be able to pitch in the majors by first week of June. So overall, the New York Yankees can breathe a sigh of relief as their ace’s return is just on the cards.
