REPORTS: New York Yankees’ Key Infield Prospect Ruled Out For 6-8 Weeks With Shoulder Strain

In 2023, the New York Yankees’ worst season in decades, injuries plagued the team massively. With Aaron Judge sitting out for eight weeks due to a toe injury, the Bronx Bombers looked paralysed in his absence. To call it a disaster would be an understatement.

Regardless, ahead of the rebound 2024 season, the Yankees have been extra cautious about the roster’s health. All training drills and practice sessions were planned keeping players’ workloads in mind. However, despite extra caution, the franchise was hit with its first massive injury setback of the year.

In a massive blow to the New York Yankees ahead of the 2024 season opening day, infield prospect Oswald Peraza has been ruled out with a grievous injury. Peraza was scratched off the lineup last month due to shoulder discomfort. However, the kid didn’t feel better even after 10 days of rest, which raised alarm bells inside the Yankee camp. They immediately scheduled imaging scans. Besides imaging, Peraza underwent multiple additional scans to determine the root cause of the injury and the extent. Over this weekend, MLB insider Bryan Hoch confirmed that Oswald Peraza has been diagnosed with subscapularis strain in his right shoulder, which will keep him out for the upcoming 6-8 weeks. Peraza cannot perform any baseball-related activities at this time.

Oswald Peraza, a highly touted shortstop prospect, was expected to compete for playing time in the infield during spring training. However, his injury will further delay his progress. The 21-year-old has shown immense promise in the minor leagues. Therefore, his absence will leave a void in the Yankees’ infield depth chart. Also, the timing of Peraza’s injury is particularly unfortunate for both the player and the team, as opening day is just around the corner. The kid was slated as infield depth on the bench. But now, the Bronx Bombers will need to rely on other infield options to step up and fill the void left by the injured prospect. In the meantime, Peraza will focus on rehabilitating his shoulder and returning to full health as soon as possible. The Yankees medical staff will work closely with him to ensure a smooth recovery process. And also provide him with the necessary support and resources.

Two-time CY Young award-winning pitcher Blake Snell is still a free agent with the 2024 MLB season’s opening day approaching. He had a tense negotiation battle with the New York Yankees, but his ambitious demand eventually led to a fallout, as Hal Steinbrenner decided to pull the plug.

That being said, after months of contemplation, ESPN’s Buster Olney linked Blake Snell to the Los Angeles Angels. “I’m hearing that Blake Snell’s strong preference is to go to the Angels,” said Olney. He added that the two parties have had negotiations talk back and forth. And he firmly believes the celebrated pitcher will land with the Angels.
