The Mercedes team had high hopes for the Dutch GP, as they were riding the waves of success just before the summer shutdown. Everyone expected a tough battle between Red Bull, McLaren, and Mercedes. Surprisingly, the Silver Arrows had a lackluster outing, failing to leave a mark. The British Duo of George Russell and Lewis Hamilton finished at P7 & P8.

As a result, the Brackley-based outfit faced a row of criticism, prompting executives to provide explanations. The squad unanimously dubbed the latest ‘floor’ the culprit. It disrupted the W15’s balance, leaving the drivers puzzled.  James Allison has now explained the conundrum, suggesting a way forward.

James Allison Admits Mercedes Didn’t Have A ‘Well-Balanced’ Car In The Dutch Showdown

Mercedes technical chief James Allison shared his thoughts on the post-race debrief video. When asked about the new floor’s performance, Allison admitted the team is unaware of its impact. However, he claimed the downforce, which was expected, was present. So, in that term, it worked according to the expectations. Further, he explained it is not just about the aero package delivering a high downforce. Instead, it is more about the car balance in low to high speed and how well the drivers manage it. Moreover, the British engineer accepted it wasn’t a well-balanced car in Zandvoort, adversely impacting the pace. But, the team needs to figure out whether it was solemnly due to the new aero package.

Further, Allison confirmed the downforce to be precise, but an investigation is necessary to improve the balance. He urged his team to be open to multidimensional interpretations for a better outcome. The Briton also believed the car to be on a “knife edge.” It was due to the uncertain rear end, which was ready to snap. As a result, the car lost grip in the key moments when the drivers were trying to hustle. Additionally, as the tyre slips, it increases the track temperature. Further, the temperature doesn’t drop due to the lack of straights. Ultimately, the temperature and a snap could instantly destroy the entire lap.
