A recipe for a successful Formula One team requires a fast car and a skilful driver. However, a squad needs a technical genius in its backroom to build a fast car. Thus, F1 might be the only sport where behind-the-scenes actors play a more significant role than the on-stage performers. This is why the elite teams have the most talented minds in the technical team.
However, Scuderia Ferrari is on a path to reinvigorate its technical crew. Thus, the team has been on a hunt to hire the top talents from other teams. Fred Vasseur has poached several technical supremos from rivals. However, a former Mercedes engineer, who was reportedly knocking on the Maranello’s door, is not on the squad’s radar.
Mike Elliot On Ferrari’s Radar As Vasseur Aims For Technical Reinvogration
A recent report from Formula1Uno revealed that Mike Elliot is currently a free agent and not on the Ferrari list. Additionally, the report refuted any interest from Vasseur in hiring the talented engineer. Lewis Hamilton, who is also moving to Ferrari in 2025, expected a reunion with his old comrade. Throughout his F1 career, Elliot has been with Hamilton. In the Briton’s debut season with McLaren, Elliot was their Aerodynamic head. Later, when the seven-time world champion joined Mercedes, Elliot was already there. Therefore, earlier in 2024, rumours linked the 50-year-old engineer with the Prancing Horse. It was when Vasseur was re-constructing the entire suad, searching for new talented faces. Therefore, a report from Scuderia Fans suggested Vasseur could lure in the ex-Silver Arrows employees.
In October 2023, when Mercedes was enduring a tough patch, the team announced the departure of Elliot. The engineer decided to take a break before looking for a new role. However, he could not come back to the paddock, and there was no news about the engineer.
Former Mercedes Chief Technical Officer Is On A Long Break
After his Mercedes exit, Mike opened up about taking a brief break before restarting his technical services. In the official announcement, the Briton thanked the Mercedes team after 12 years of success and glory. Moreover, Elliot worked for 23 years straight for different motorsports squads. Thus, it was a necessary break for him, but now he is willing to be back. Elliot is one of the finest F1 engineers, and he would be hoping for a solid comeback.
