Sir Lewis Hamilton is at the twilight of his career at the age of 38. In his long and illustrious Formula One career, Hamilton has broken many records. Nobody has won more races and championships than him, as he has won 103 races. Nobody else has even reached 100 as of yet. Currently, he shares the record of most title wins with the F1 great Michael Schumacher.

But Mercedes is still struggling with their car. They had a lot of expectations on the W14 car before the 2023 season began. However, the car disappointed Lewis Hamilton and the team miserably. Hence, the seven-time world champ has a lot to think about staying with the struggling team in the foreseeable future. And according to the latest reports, Hamilton is looking for a five-year contract extension worth 250 million pounds with team Mercedes.

Hamilton’s ongoing contract is ending after the current F1 season gets over. Hence, it has been a hot topic of discussion whether the seven-time champion will change teams or stay with his decade-long team. Apparently, another powerhouse Ferrari is interested in signing Hamilton when he becomes a free agent. But he had several times made it clear that as long as his relationship with Mercedes boss Toto Wolff is tight, he’ll not change teams. Recently, Wolff also asserted that the discussion about extending the contract with Lewis Hamilton is a matter of weeks, not months. Maybe even before the Canadian Grand Prix this Sunday. However, there has been a delay in the final announcement.

According to The Daily Mail, Lewis Hamilton wants a five-year contract with Mercedes worth 250 million pounds. He is planning to continue till he is 43 years old, maybe even beyond that age. Moreover, the British driver told Sky Sports that both he and Toto Wolff have a great understanding, and he has nothing more to say about the contract side. Wolff has also acknowledged that Lewis Hamilton is the most important F1 personality. He is popular even outside the race track. Hence, Mercedes is definitely planning to keep Hamilton in the sport for as long as possible. But when they are going to sign a multi-year contract is still a question.

Currently, Lewis Hamilton is busy concentrating on the Canadian Grand Prix. In the FP2 of the Canadian GP, Mercedes finished one-two. But still, the team is not showing any positive reaction to the result. They still think they are very far from Red Bull. Moreover, the Canadian GP is going to be very tough. However, Hamilton has won seven times in Canada, like Michael Schumacher. But he is finding it hard to get to his eighth world championship.

It is because Mercedes has failed to provide him with a championship-winning car since last year. The seven-time champion was unable to win a single race last season. For the first time in his career, Hamilton had to go through a winless year. Even in the current season, Mercedes has fallen far behind Red Bull. Their arch-rivals have won all seven races so far. They look unstoppable at the moment.
