Sir Lewis Hamilton has been waiting for the moment since the 2021 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. It has been a too-long wait for the most decorated racer of all time to win his 104th F1 race. The Saudi Arabian GP back in 2021 was his 103rd win. Since then, the British great went through a winless streak for two and a half years. People raised questions regarding his age and doubted that his time was over. But the seven-time champion is not one of them who gives up that easily. There is a reason why he has been a winner and a champion for most of his F1 career. His skills and determination separate him from the rest. 2022 was the first season when he had a winless run.

Then, the same thing repeated in 2023. As a result, very early this year, Lewis Hamilton announced his departure from Mercedes to Ferrari. It shocked the fans to know that he would drive for the Silver Arrows for just one last time this year. Nonetheless, the seven-time champion wanted to end his collaboration with the German outfit on a winning note. However, he didn’t have a great start to the 2024 season. Finally, on his favourite track at Silverstone, Hamilton ended the win drought.

It was a close fight between Lando Norris and Lewis Hamilton during a rainy race in Silverstone. Moreover, George Russell had won the pole position in qualifying. However, he ended up with an unfortunate DNF in Silverstone. Then, Norris and Hamilton had a fierce battle throughout the race. They were leading the race for most of the laps. Finally, it was the reigning champion, Max Verstappen, who overtook Norris in second place. However, the Dutch racer could not beat his old rival, Lewis Hamilton, who went on to win his 104th GP. Later, in the post-race interview, the seven-time champion mentioned, as per Formula1.com, “It has been since 2021,” the wait has been too long. Moreover, he said, “I just can’t stop crying.”

Adding to that, Hamilton mentioned that every day he got up trying to fight and train to “Put my mind to the task and help this amazing team.” He is aware that his ninth British GP win was his last race in Silverstone for Mercedes. Next year, he will be a Ferrari man. Lewis Hamilton noted that he appreciates all the hard work everyone in the team has put in all these years. He said, “I wanted to win for them so much because I really love them.” Moreover, the seven-time champion credited the big home support he always gets on the Silverstone circuit.

Lewis Hamilton mentioned that he will always be grateful to everyone in the Mercedes team and also to the partners. But most of all, he wanted to do it for the fans who have been waiting for ‘Hammer Time’ for so long. He said that there is no greater feeling than finishing at the front in the British GP. Hamilton talked about putting on a “Brave Face” during his victory drought. He said that the important thing to do during such tough times is to keep getting up and dig deeper.

It is important to do that even when one is at the “Bottom of the barrel,” says the great Briton. The 39 year old racer said that the fan’s support, along with the hard works of everyone back in the Brackley factory encouraged him to never give up. It was important as he had those moments when he thought he was just not good enough anymore. Finally, he said “Big Thank You” to the fans and “I love you guys” to everyone in the Mercedes team.
