Giancarlo Stanton, once touted as the most feared hitter in MLB, witnessed a steep decline following his MVP season in 2016. He was traded to New York Yankees with high expectations. However, big city pressure coupled with fitness issues derailed Stanton’s promising career completely.
He hasn’t played more than 416 games for New York Yankees since 2016. Moreover, in the past six years, he landed on IL 8 times with difference lower body issues. This season as well, Giancarlo Stanton couldn’t stay healthy for long. However, after month long rehab, the slugger is expected to be activated as early as next week.
Giancarlo Stanton’s Projected Return On Monday On Schedule!
After owning a career-worst season in 2023, Giancarlo Stanton witnessed a resurgence in the first half of the 2024 season. The leaner physique influenced his athleticism as Stanton went on a roar in the first months. He was hitting .246 with 18 home runs and 45 RBIs before picking up a hamstring injury. The slugger has been on IL since June 22, slowly building up in an extensive recovery process. While his initial timeline was four weeks, the Yankees conditioning team allowed him an extra week to build up. Moreover, if skipper Aaron Boone is to be believed, Stanton’s return was originally scheduled for Monday next week. While a final decision is pending an evaluation, Boone is confident of Stanton’s return on Monday against the Phillies.
“He’ll probably be back. We’re shooting for Monday in Philly, but we’ll see also how these next couple of days go, too,” Aaron Boone said in a press conference on Sunday. Notably, Giancarlo Stanton endured a similar hamstring injury last year as well. Upon return, Stanton went on an all-time career-low stretch, resulting in a .191 batting average. Hence, many fear history repeating itself this time around as well. However, the New York Yankees appear confident, especially with the kind of start Stanton has had in the season. Moreover, this year, the slugger has the cushion of batting below in-form hitters such as Juan Soto and Aaron Judge. Hence, Stanton’s return at this stage of the season is viewed as a positive sign as the Bronx Bombers desperately need a spark in the struggling offense. Jazz Chisholm Jr joined the squad for the same purpose last weekend.
Aaron Judge Unlocks Career High In Yankees 11-8 Win Vs Red Sox
Despite going down in the series opener against the Boston Red Sox, the New York Yankees bounced back to win the series. On Saturday, the Yanks witnessed a run fest with captain Aaron Judge reaching bases all time career high six times. In four at-bats, Judge scored a home run, three RBIs and two walks on four hits.
Meanwhile, Aaron Boone, the New York Yankees skipper, was all praise for Aaron Judge. “He’s the same, focused, energetic, team guy all the time, and it’s all I’ve ever seen from him,” Boone said. Having said that, the Yanks are back to winning ways after a tough stretch and are just 1 game below the Orioles in the AL-East division.
