The New York Yankees have bounced back fairly after a listless 82-80 season in 2023. While the team finished outside the postseason for the first time in many years, manager Aaron Boone was allowed to keep his job by owner Hal Steinbrenner as his players vouched for him.

However, Aaron Boone’s contract will cease to exist following the conclusion of the 2024 MLB season. He has a club option for 2025. However, a final decision will depend a lot on the Yankees’ postseason journey. That being said, an MLB insider has unusually linked the Red Sox manager to the Yanks if a switch were to happen in the upcoming off-season.

In a surprising twist, Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora has been linked to the New York Yankees amid uncertainty surrounding Aaron Boone’s future with the team. Both Cora and Boone’s contracts are set to expire by the end of the year. While Boone has a club option, the Yanks rely on the current season’s results to determine the skipper’s future. And as for Cora, he is also unlikely to continue at the Red Sox. Hence, Ken Rosenthal predicted Cora to flip the rivalry and land in the Bronx to replace Boone in 2025. While the prospect of such an unusual move is intriguing, a couple of factors need to be considered before drawing definite conclusions.

Firstly, Alex Cora will have many lucrative openings in the LA Dodgers or St. Louis Cardinals. Additionally, many believe that Cora will take a year-long sabbatical and explore other avenues in baseball operations. Additionally, Aaron Boone is expected to be rewarded with his club options, considering the turnaround the New York Yankees have produced this year. From being the bottom-placed AL-East team to leading the league with a win-less record, the Bombers have definitely come a long way. Hence, it would be foolish for Hal Steinbrenner to sack Boone when the 50-year-old has guided the team to the postseason five times in his six-year-long career as a Yankee skipper. While the absence of a World Series ring in the trophy cabinet continues to diminish his overall success, the Bombers will likely extend Boone’s leash for the 2025 season.

Boston Red Sox won the home rivalry against the New York Yankees at Fenway Park on Sunday and also scripted history in the process. Red Sox stole nine bases during the series finale, which is a franchise record for most stolen bases in a single MLB game. Naturally, Yankee manager Aaron Boone wasn’t happy with his team’s efforts in the defence.

Aaron Boone called the Red Sox a fast team that never misses out on scoring chances. He urged the Yankees to make a collective effort henceforth to avoid such lapses on the field. “We gotta do a better job overall of just controlling those things. We didn’t do well enough tonight,” Boone said in a post-game interview following a 2-1 series loss to the Red Sox.
