The New York Yankees have been trying to seal a deal with a top-pitching free agent available in the market. But for a long time in the offseason, the NY side failed to sign an ace pitcher. However, they did sign Marcus Stroman for a two-year deal worth $37 million. But the fans have been looking for a more dependable pitcher. Several such dependable pitchers are available on the market, such as Blake Snell and Jordan Montgomery. Moreover, the Bronx Bombers are familiar with Montgomery a little too well. Last season, they traded the pitcher to the Texas Rangers. That was great for Jordan as the Rangers went on to win their maiden World Series title. And Montgomery played a crucial role in the final series.

However, the superstar pitcher from the San Diego Padres, Blake Snell, has been the favorite to sign with the Yankees. But that deal has been delayed forever, as it seems. The two-time Cy Young winner was looking for a pretty big deal. Moreover, the Yankees initially offered him a six-year deal worth $150 million. But the reigning NL Cy Young winner refused because he was looking for something around $270 million over nine years. But that was just too high for the Yankees. However, it seems lately that the Bronx Bombers may have another chance to seal the deal.

Is Blake Snell Ready For Signing A One-Year Deal With The Yankees?

As per Jon Heyman of The New York Post, Jordan Montgomery still looks for a long-term deal. But Blake Snell might be open for a one-year deal. The Two-time Cy Young winner might be open to signing a short-term deal with opt-outs. Moreover, the fans might know that the Yankees can’t afford to sign a massive deal right now because they don’t want to face a gigantic tax penalty. On the other hand, even a short-term deal seems unlikely right now. However, the group of starting pitchers looks a bit shaky for the NY side.

Hence, a short-term deal around the corner is not unfathomable. Moreover, when the Yankees landed Juan Soto, they proved that they were ready to go all-in for the 2024 season. Hence, signing Blake Snell for even a year with a high AAV is quite understandable. Moreover, if the two-time Cy Young winner pairs up with Gerrit Cole, the 2023 AL Cy Young winner, the Yankee’s chances of winning the World Series are really high.

How A One-Year Deal With Snell Will Impact A Long-term Contract Between The Bombers And Soto?

If the NY side can sign with Blake Snell for a year, it is clearly going to be an expensive deal. But Blake can help the Yankees in a major way. After the 2024 season is over, irrespective of the result, the Yankees and Snell will have a choice to extend their contract. However, the other superstar who came from the San Diego Padres to the Bronx will be an even bigger priority for the Bombers.

If the chemistry between Aaron Judge and Juan Soto keeps getting better, the Yankees will want to sign the Dominican slugger for a long-term deal. However, if the NY side fails to do so, they can use the money for the reigning NL Cy Young winner. Moreover, if the Yankees sign Snell for a long-term deal, that in return can impact the chances of an extension between Soto and them. Hence, a one-year deal between the two-time Cy Young winner and the 27-time champions makes much more sense.
