The New York Yankees were aggressive this off-season. They spent nearly $290 million in total. The front office went on a shopping spree while acquiring new talents as well as retaining the existing ones. The extent is such that now the club cannot acquire any new players to avoid exceeding the tax threshold.
The Yanks retained Aaron Judge for $360 million and named the captain of the roster. Further, the Bombers signed pitcher, Carlos Rodon, for $162 million. The Yankees spent nearly half of their money on just two players. However, a certain section of fans still believes the Bronx Bombers have not done enough, and they should add one or two additional big names to the roster before the opening day.
TalkinYanks Podcaster States The Fans Are Upset With Yankees Off Season
The Yankees roster, as described by Aaron Boone, is the best in recent years. The roster is filled with talented names starting from the shortstop to pitchers to sluggers. Moreover, the Yanks have managed to build good bench strength as well. However, certain section fans are still unhappy over the off-season as they feel the club did not add any marquee player to the team after Carlos Rodon.
During a podcast on TalkinYanks, the host revealed the Yankees are mostly going into the season with the current roster. However, he feels the general public is not happy with the roster. The host did acknowledge the Yankees’ efforts to bring in Carlos Rodon and Aaron Judge. However, he further added that the fans expected a few more big names, which did not happen. In the end, both the hosts agreed to the opinion that the Yankees could have done better and should add a couple of big names to the roster before the opening day. However, that looks unlikely at the moment considering the cash crunch within the club.
“The general public looks very upset with the offseason,” says the TalkinYanks host.
Bronx Bombers Bring In Aaron Judge, Carlos Rodon For Big Bucks
The New York Yankees had a tough off-season. Just during the start, they had to tackle Aaron Judge, who threatened to leave for the Giants. However, they somehow managed to make him stay back and gave out $360 million for a nine-year contract. Post that, Carlos Rodon was yet another momentous signing for the Yanks. They acquired the pitcher in a six-year contract for $162 million. The club literally had to empty its pockets just for these two marquee players. However, considering the potential, the bucks seem worth it at the moment.
Coming back to the season, the 2023 MLB season will begin sometime around March. Ahead of that, the spring training will commence in a few weeks, where the respective rosters will be put to the test. Meanwhile, the Yankees bullpen looks strong. However, they are still looking at the Pirates to trade Bryan Reynolds to end the club left-field woes.
